I notice that you rescued a Kaywoodie pipe. I am a bit of a Kaywoodie fan, so I appreciate that you kept an old one viable. I like the classic billiard shape. I got an inspiration from this video. (Something rare for me.) Since you are repairing a vulcanite stem, why not mix vulcanite powder with the super glue? I have a couple stems with bite throughs that I am going to try to repair. I also discovered StewMac's black super glue. I have several derelict vulcanite stems that are broken. I am going to take a file to the broken stems to make a pile of vulcanite dust. Using your recommendation from this video, I am going to mix vulcanite powder into the glue (instead of corn starch) to see what I come up with. Activated charcoal is also an idea. As for sources, your local health food store or the health food section of your local grocery store might have some. Activated charcoal is used for stomach and intestinal ailments. It comes in capsule form, so all one need do is open the capsules for a pile of charcoal dust.

Great work. Ordered the glue. Plenty of Restos where I left some deep marks. I’ll have a lot to practice on. Stew Mac has sale too. 50% off atm

thank you for a helpful and informative video. May your pipe always be full and your matches always dry.

Great video. I repaired a bite hole in a pipe that I bought for $8. I mixed charcoal dust in clear super glue. The tinted glue would be a lot better. I am going to order some of that glue and the micro mesh pads this weekend. I am going to be on the lookout for another broken stem to try out. Thanks for making this video. I wish I had seen it first.

I'll be ordering this glue and those needle files this week. Gonna work on a bite through when they come in. Thank you for the information!!!

That's pretty cool bud. I'll definitely try that out next time I get a bit through stem.

Just bought Kaywoodie Drinkless Apple 7742 pipes and a stand, with a music box inside for $35 + tax. The one has a big hole in the stem, and the other appears they filed the bottom portion off. I'll have to try this method for the one with a big hole. The one with a whole chunk filed out, I'll probably just clean it up and leave it as is.

I have used activated charcoal a couple times since I made this video instead of corn starch and like the results better. Vulcanite dust seems to create the most seamless repairs if you have an old stem to file down for the powder.

@@pipeminer7281 After seeing how the bite out looked on the pipe stem you repaired, I'll probably repair both of mine. I was going to just do the one with a hole, but the other one is missing a chunk in the same spot as the one you repaired. The bowls on the 2 I got look to be in good shape. I have to clean them up, and repair the stems, and they'll be ready to smoke.

@@pipeminer7281 Have you tried clear super glue, mixed with activated charcoal powder? Does it look just as good? Or does the black super glue make it look better?
@pipeminer72812 жыл бұрын
@@TheAsthmatic91 I've only used the black just because I felt safer with a colored base. Starbond also makes colored CA glue in a variety of setting options.

Here’s a tip: Mix your glue with black vulcanite powder to thicken and strengthen your material. You can take and old pipe stem and grind the powder from it.
@pipeminer72817 жыл бұрын
One thing I failed to mention in the video, I would suggest trying activated charcoal powder instead of corn starch to thicken the glue. My hope is that would eliminate any discoloration. Somebody said that it should be available with aquarium supplies, apparently it's used in tank filters.

Could you use the dust from a sanded stem to mix with the glue to thicken it up?
@pipeminer72815 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. I've seen a couple other videos where they use that method and it works really well.

is that applied glue toxic? I believe superglue is toxic for skin and mucosae
@pipeminer72814 жыл бұрын
Superglue in it's liquid form is considered toxic however once it has cured and hardened I don't believe it's still toxic. I have smoked this pipe many times with no problems or irritation at all. I would say that if a chip was to break out of the repair I would be sure not to ingest it just to be cautious but I would say the same about a piece of acrylic or vulcanite. Thank you for watching.
