As a beginner, whenever I see a “1 minute” tutorial, I get sad because I know it’s a lot of info condensed into a. short video that I won’t be able to follow. Thank you for making an expanded, slower version

Very helpful video. I've not used armature before so I learned quite a bit. At first I missed that some of the bones need to be extruded in edit mode but I got there. I also had some trouble not understanding that the bone naming .L was necessary for symmetrize. Finally when I import the collection into my scene I see all the bird bodies beyond the flock - the 'source' birds, so I am having some trouble actually using them in my scene.

Brilliant, Thank you , and if we uncheck "Random order" under 'Source", that will prevent birds from building on top of each other, but won't be as random though.

I’d look into the NLA editor for the bird animation offsetting. You can set the base animation as an action, then through the editor, handle repeating and offsetting. I don’t know how to automate the offsetting, but if there is a way, I believe the easiest solution would be somehow through the NLA editor.

To add edge loop on 2:13min, select the edges and press Ctrl+R and scroll the mouse to add the edges

If you turn off random order in the particle sim you will loose the double birds too! Great tutorial!

symetrize dosent work in my case ? what did i wrong ? i hit the X in top corner, and changed it in the pop up, but nothing happend hm, can you help me ? is there a setting i need before ? thanks Sir

You need to name your bones ending with .R for right or .L for left - it's not optional - that R or L instructs the symmetrize about the geometry. It sounds like the bone naming is just object naming but it's not, it's functional too.

You don't really need to paint the bird. It doesn't make a difference for the range. It just looks like a silhouette. So if u feel like adding anything just change the base color. But still... no need to. Won't really show. Would suggest to UV project from a bird image. Gotta crunch down the time.

Love your tutorials, Louis! I'm a novice and have a question that maybe you can help with. Right after texture painting and I switch to material preview, all my transparent alpha I erased is visible. It is transparent in the solid viewport. Am I missing a view option or something else?

Thank you for this tutorial! I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm facing atm, when I try to edit one bird's animation so that they aren't the same on all of the birds, it just copies the changes I've made on to the rest of the birds so they stay synchronized? Also some of the yellow dots are stuck in place, I can't move them even though they aren't locked? Really hope someone can help me, I would appreciate it a lot

If anyone is having trouble extending the time of the flock flying, make sure each bird is animated for the duration you need, aswell as the movement of the sphere empty!!

Hmm, this feels like a weight map issue. The auto generated weight maps might need adjusting. This video shows a solution if you're un-familiar with the process.

You might have to uncheck the original birds collection so thats hidden, it fills up the background on render if you dont

When I go to instance the object from the collection and delete everything but the meshes, all the bird particles play in each vertice instead of a different bird on each vertice. 26:11

Okay for anyone else who got that problem: Dublicate all bones from the one root bone; stay in edit mode, select all and parent everything to the root bone. Idk if I'm the only one who was dumb enough to spend a solid 30 min on that lol🤣

In the UV window there's a "UV > Pack Islands" menu option, it does the same thing, just not as well. I should have used that for this tutorial, sorry.
