I wish I’d seen this video first before adjusting a shoulder line and sleeve on a dress! The original shoulder seam was far too wide (as well as the pinching out the 3/4 inch needed) and the short sleeves were too big and droopy. My amateur taking in efforts (didn’t remove the sleeve or make a template) much improved shoulder and sleeve but there is a diagonal pleat now from armhole towards the upper bust. Not ideal but it’s not obvious and wearable. I have a top with a low v neck, thanks to your video I now see the right way to go about it!

I'm so glad you found this video! Hopefully it will help in future adjustments that you have to make. Sometimes, taking up the outer part of the shoulder seam (the sleeve side) will help to reduce folds that might eminate from the armhole. I can't envision why one might have been created as you described. As long as it's wearable, then good for you! Oftentimes things that bother us aren't noticeable to other people, and the garment still looks great. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! Be sure to subscribe in case I put out other content that might be useful!!!!

Thanks Bonnie!! 😆 I’m so glad that some of the seemingly insignificant things to me, are indeed significant to others, and not too tedious ;) I never know where that balance is. Thanks once again for chiming in! I hope you and yours are all well 💕

Thank you for this video! I can’t say I enjoy making alterations, but I appreciate having the skills, when needed. I, sometimes, need to take up RTW garments under the arm, which raises the opening. So far, I’ve only done that on sleeveless. I think I’d be confident to tackle sleeves, now. Seeing you make the “pattern” of the opening and the tip to keep one sleeve in tact might be a game changer. Thanks, again! 😊-Deborah

Thanks for sharing! I'm SO glad that some of my information is useful to you! Sometimes it's those little 'tips' that can make all the difference. I wish you the greatest of success with altering your garments. (To be honest with you, 15 years ago, I would have said I HATED doing alterations, too. But now, I've made pretty good friends with alterations!) ;) Thanks for your comment :)

Thanks for your video. It was a great help as I have a dress neckline that is too low and tight under the arms.

i appreciate this video so much! i've been thinking that it would be useful to make this alteration on a cowl neck blouse

Love it , how much do you charge for this alteration ? How much time did it take you to finish? I’m sure you are fast. Thanks ❤😊

It's really hard for me to put out there publically what I charge. Different regions have different costs of living, and my region is rather high. For instance, our minimum wage is OVER $16/hour! So with that in mind, obviously I want to pay myself more than minimum wage. This is a skilled trade so let's say that I want to pay myself $45 per hour. And I estimate that the alteration might take me an hour. Then I'd charge $45. This particular dress, I was taking video and spending extra time to stage the shots, etc. so obviously it took me longer than normal. Hope that helps a bit ;) Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
