In Texas, how important is a trust to avoid probate court all together?

It depends! Some people (especially those with very simple assets), will see that a trust is not worth the cost. For example, if you have just a checking account and savings account, you might be perfectly fine with nothing more than beneficiary designations filed with the bank. On the other hand, if you have investment accounts and own real estate, your heirs would probably tell you it's "worth it" to have a trust so probate court may be avoided.

Sadly, it seems, my father's lawyer must have lied during this process.
