EIT and P.Eng are two different designations used for engineers in Canada. EIT stands for Engineer in Training, while P.Eng stands for Professional Engineer.
The main difference between EIT and P.Eng is that an EIT is an engineer who has completed their academic studies in engineering and is working towards acquiring the necessary experience and knowledge to become a licensed professional engineer, whereas a P.Eng is a licensed engineer who has met the requirements set by the professional engineering regulatory body in their province or territory.
To become an EIT, one must have completed an accredited undergraduate degree in engineering or related field, pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and then work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer for a certain amount of time.
To become a P.Eng, one must have completed the requirements to become an EIT, obtained the necessary work experience, and then pass the Professional Practice Exam (PPE) to become licensed by their provincial or territorial engineering regulatory body.
Having a P.Eng designation allows an engineer to take on more responsibility and authority in their field of work, and also allows them to legally offer their engineering services to the public.
We'll also provide helpful tips and resources along the way to help you navigate the process and achieve your goal of becoming a registered engineer in Canada.
