9:06 - One of the most useful drawing tools that was introduced to me is a General's Sketch and Wash Pencil. You can draw whatever you want on the silk and it stays. Once you put the silk in the steamer all of the graphite disappears completely! I've been silk painting for over 10.5 years using this technique the whole time and I've had no problems.

@@denisestover2416 hi I just read your post about the general sketch and wash pencil. If I’m using Dino flow, I won’t be steaming anything so can I still use that pencil and it wash out after using dye n Flo on Silk Scarf?
@denisestover24166 ай бұрын
@susanmcmillan1548 HI, Susan. I only use Dye•Na•Flo (DNF) for my ties and they can't get too wet. So, I lightly sketch my drawing onto the tie (with the General's pencil) and then I paint over the lines. I haven't used the pencils with DNF on any scarves because I only use dyes for those, but I imagine that you can just paint over the graphite, spritz water on the graphite that's exposed after you've heat set the DNF and gently rub the graphite out or once you've heat set the DNF on the scarf you can hand wash it (or however you wash your scarves) and the graphite will come out. I've recently purchased ink pens that are for marking on fabrics and then removed with heat. I haven't tried them yet, but I will soon - if God says the same! I hope I've helped 🙂. If I can help further and Ilona Stűre does not mind, you can contact me at chirhosilkstudio@gmail.com.

I'm already an experienced artist in oil and watercolor. But I'm thinking of painting a silk, if it's not too much of a challenge. I have a lovely large frame with a batik in it, floated between 2 pieces of glass. The batik is really faded, and I don't know who made the batik. But I'm thinking of replacing it with a silk painting of my own, if not too much of a "learning curve". I've painted fish too, I like your fish.

This was great. Your method of doing different things in each square to show the various possibilities is really helpful. It was interesting to see the way the various paints reacted with the silk. I would love to see an instructional video about dyes vs. paints. Having not purchased any supplies yet, I am leaning toward dyes as they seem to move more fluidly. Is this correct? Anyway, Love all of your videos

Thank you. within 3-4 days a video about resist is going to be published, and exactly the next video was planned about dyes and paints. Both have advantages and disadvantages (as always🙂). I'll tell in video.

I am researching silk painting and I found this very helpful. A question- how do you get rid of the paints you didn't use and to clean the palate, brushes. I would also like a lead on where to get these products please- there are videos but it would be helpful to be directed to good sites to get these items Thanks I have bookmarked this!
@issilkpainting10 ай бұрын
Hello, as I remember in this video I was using acrylic paints. Acryl is water based so a palette and brushes are washed out with water. The paints which are left in little cups, (if they are clean) I return in jars, otherwise just wash out with water. All my stuff was bought at a local art supply store. I think the brand doesn't matter much I guess, the main things - color, it's better to have bright ones. Than you can mute them when mixing. But you'll never get bright color from muted. Thank you too!

Do you have a list of the most necessary supplies for beginners? Using silk must be expensive. If one was to sell products, what sells best?
@issilkpainting2 ай бұрын
Like it was said in video a frame, a fabric, resist/gutta, a resist/gutta applicator (if it's not a free hand painting), paints (for beginners iron set paints go better). If you feel free to mix colors red/yellow/blue/black are enough, OR you can get those you like best. And may be pins, push pins or suspension claws (depending). I think that's all. As I know Dharma Trading provides with all this stuff, but I usually buy all the items at my local art supplies store.
