Closing remarks brought this to mind.....The parable of the man who cleaned his house of unwanted influence then left for a time. While gone the influences which were sent away returned bringing others who were worse than themselves...upon return the man found his house in worse shape than before.....

@@Glorian Vicebound says great. Indeed, some of these steps are crucial and need further explanation. VB and I had finished our first video on meditation and the 8 limbs of yoga, and then realized that we haven't yet explained how to actually meditate! But it is good to explain terms in one video and then "how to's" in another.

Can you guys tell me what the spinning sensation is during concentration meditation. Havent been mediating long so dont know if this is just " the ego fabricating sensations" or something like that, which i read in one of samael's books along those lines. I also keep having this pulsating and tingling sensation in the bridge of my nose that is very distracting everytime.
@Glorian

You know when you first start exercising, sometimes you feel nausea or dizziness; this is similar to that: starting to meditate stirs up stagnation and moves energy. It will stop happening. You can ignore it. If you feel dizzy or anxious, simply open your eyes and relax a bit.

Thank you for your kindness in preparing this series! It's without a doubt the most interesting and comprehensive one I've come across. I started meditating regularly only recently, without any guidance, so this is pure gold. I have a question you perhaps can shed some light on. While meditating, before watching this series, I stumbled upon some feelings which i'm not sure are supposed to be there. Very early on in my practice I stumbled upon a way I can direct the attention inwards, with a combination of directing eye vision inwards and directing breath to the top of my head. The breath is very subtle (I let it happen by itself, without controlling it). After watching this video, it seems to me that this stage I just described is indeed Pratyahara. After a few breaths done this way, if I'm fully invested into them, I feel all the rest of my senses gradually fading out, and going deeper is then way easier. What eventually made me question the technique is that I started a sense of pressure on my palate, sinus cavities and the center of my forehead. This pressure moves and no matter how much I relax in the Asana phase, it stays there. If I do manage to go very deep into meditation and disregard it it disappears. The only reason why I'm skeptical is that I keep feeling this throughout the day. I also constantly feel some sensations of buzzing/pressure on my third eye center and on my head, as if I have a bucket at the top of it-though this latter sensation is rather pleasant, and I only have it when I feel more "attentive". It almost feels like the senses are more neat and working properly. What makes me want to go back to "ignoring" that sensation is that after these first few sessions, which were usually 2-hour long, I always felt energy surging upwards, and had realisations that truly allowed me to see some things I was blind to about my perception of things, and thus change my life for the better. On top of that, the peace and calm after these sessions stayed for the entire day, usually. These are the best rewards I've had from meditation. The technique was from "Secret of the Golden Flower", in case that's useful to know. I'd truly appreciate any advice, as I have no physical mentor at the moment, other than my intuition. Thanks again for all you do and your diligent work.

In 24:46, what would be an example of an ''object of concentration'' into which I can place my full attention so I can withdraw from the senses? Thank you very much for this series of lectures.

The sun or the flame of a candle. You look at it a little, then remember it to visualize again. Having said that, I go to the park, sit down facing the sun and then meditate, but with my attention only on my breathing and heart beat. In the Bhagavad Gita, Kirishna says he shared his wisdom millions of years ago with the Sun, who then shared it with others, but over time, the knowledge got diluted, and so he repeated it to Arjuna. The Bhagavad Gita is a Q and A session between Krishna and Arjuna I find that sitting in the sun cleans me from inside. It brings me peace.

Is pratyahara the Hindu equivalent to samatha? I may have also misunderstood this term when I heard it explained as "withdrawal from the senses" and "senses are becoming more abstracted". I initially thought, oh, that's vipassana then. But there was no mentioning of special insight...
@Glorian
@Glorian Жыл бұрын
"Sha in Sanskrit means “peace.” Mata means “dwelling” or “stability.” Samatha means “to dwell or to be founded, to have establishment in peace, to dwell in peace.” This is the same as Pratyahara. The term Shamata is also related to the Tibetan shi-ne which means “peace.” Samatha is one-pointed mind, or the varying levels of concentrated attention. According to the Maitreya Buddha, there are nine distinct levels of Shamata." glorian.org/learn/glossary/s/shamatha. The higher degrees of Shamatha are equivalent to Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. In Raja Yoga, vipassana is not noted as a separate step, but is described using other terms.

I've listened to all of these lectures very carefully, they are beautifully done. But my thoughts are... What if everyone actually started living this way? I believe there would be some serious impacts on society. So many people would quit their jobs because they realize it's not ethical, there could be a collapse in all industry because so much pollution is occurring. People would become single because they realize they don't really love their partner. Births would highly decline. So much more. What of this?
