There is also a Monastic Way Exhibition, an inter-active attraction giving a fascinating insight into the lives of the monks at Buckfast along with a history of religious communities throughout Europe.
The Buckfast Abbey shops have an extensive range of unusual gifts, cards, books, food and drink. Many items are made by monks and nuns across the continent. Also on sale is Buckfast Abbey fudge, hand-made in the monastery kitchens.
Visitors can enjoy the extensive grounds - including The Sensory, Physic and award-winning Millennium Gardens. A highlight during the summer months is The Lavender Garden, boasting 50 varieties of this soothing and colourful plant.
Buckfast Abbey Church is open from 7.45am to 8.20pm (7pm on Saturday), the gardens and shops are open 10am to 4.30pm daily (Grange Restaurant at 5pm); on Sundays shops open 11.30am to 4.30pm. The Abbey church is closed to visitors during service times.

The interactive exhibition is definitely worth the £1.00. Very interesting and would recommend visiting it prior to going in to the Abbey.

The Abbey was founded in 1018. An exhaustive cleaning, conservation and restoration of the exterior and interior was started in 2011. 2013-14 saw the laying of a new floor of Purbeck stone together with a further section of Cosmati flooring around the altar. It really is a beautiful church Debbie.

Is the Buckfast Tonic WIne actually still made at the abbey or by monks now? Or is it made by regular workers somewhere else like Hampshire now?

When I asked, I was told that is is still made at Buckfast and then taken to Andover for bottling and distribution.

No you cannot see that when visiting the Abbey. Apart from the Abbey there is an exhibition centre (£2 entry fee), some shops, restaurant and gardens)
