As a kid I lived in a MCM home on the beach in Florida. The coolest thing was the bathroom. No door but a circular open entry and orange and white checkered tiles and a huge 20 foot ceiling with a skylight. You needed no towel after a shower as you just pushed a pink button and a giant wall blower hit you with warm air and dried you in about 20 seconds. Our porch was made of Bamboo and white oak and had Japanese style hanging lanterns that looked so very cool at night. My brother and I shared a bedroom and we had these cool plastic pod beds - mine was yellow and my brothers was orange. Our kitchen was MCM but the coolest thing was the step down round dining area which was three feet lower than the floor. The ceiling was amazing - huge red cedar beams between large sheets of colored glass. Our home was sold in the late 70's and gone by 1992. Now there stands a beach resort on Siesta Key but my brother and I often talk how much we loved growing up in that home.

Big fan of Alexander Girard and those dolls are awesome all gathered together. I noticed the Girard designs throughout the home and it brought me a big smile. I dig that emerald green Eames bent wood chair. I collect mid-century modernist work. I grew up around it in the 1960's and my dad knew many of the greats of the design period personally and growing up our house was filled with their works. My father was a design director for four major design firms in his career. He had the design greats early stuff starting in the late 1940's through 1960's. I'm a retired graphic designer and now a painter and I like what you have curated in the space.

What a fabulous apartment. We're all about the mid-century modern era and have many pieces in our pad. I was a picker for years down here in South Florida and with a gallery downtown Delray Beach for years, so I was able to get some great pieces at bargain rates, which fit in our budget. I picked up a beautifully framed original Rosette Bakish multimedia piece for 30 bucks at a garage sale, which is a focal point in our living room. We have a wonderful store we go to in Wilton Manors called DECADES, which has 90% original mid-century modern era furniture and decorative items and we have purchased quite a few things there. These two retired dudes on a budget could never afford to live in NYC, or pay premium prices for pieces, but we've done okay and love our little 2/2 condo on the water in Delray Beach. Anyway, this was wonderful.

Smartly, all the furniture in the living room is up off the floor, which makes it look less blocky. This gives the small room a larger feel, because you can see the sweep of the floor extending underneath the pieces. You can see this in the opening shots and also around 5:00. Even though this is a hallmark of midcentury design, I suspect it was a conscious choice.

The kitchen is the worst part of this apartment. Aside the fact that all kitchenware is exposed and as such it needs constant cleaning it seems that they don't cook that much in that kitchen, because the kitchen lacks a hood extractor. If they do actually cook, then their beautiful white apartment will turn into a yellow apartment in a couple of years and their beautiful paintings will smell onions and fried potatoes in matter of months. My point is that looks should never be more important than utility and function.
