I think you can use it to initiate combat or interact with over world items.

Honestly, this looks like a really repetitive gameplay loop, and kind of a barebones turn based system in comparison to other games in the genre. Not that it matters, because the fanbase will play anything as long as there are waifus and husbandos plastered all over every square inch of it.
