No, it's because even with all that inherent talent, and the clear advantage of being the 2nd 7footer drafted in history, he only performed with selfish intentions. Which is why as a guy that's supposed to be this "dominant" force he didn't win shit as a #1. He didn't win until he played behind arguably better players like Jerry West.

@quickup7530 Wilt yes. Magic? No. 80s was in no way in a primitive state and Magic is the one player to get the near undisputed tag for best PG. Magic was the first of his kind and had an epic 13 season run (1979 to 92). There was literally no one like Magic prior. I've always felt Lebron is a modern Magic so I agree there. @@BadWolve yeah. It's like when people give so much praise to Russell. He dominated with the literal best and stacked team in the league in a time when there were like 8 teams. I don't like doing the plumbers comparison tho' because it's not really accurate, especially to the point that Reddick was trying to make when he said it. But I do think both Wilt and Russell dominated in a league where they didn't have equals. I do think that Wilt would be akin to Giannis and Wemby and would ball out in today's league. Russell wouldn't tho'.

Wilt Chamberlain also had poor play during the playoffs vs regular season. He only had 2 rings, he had to chase his last one. Wilt regular season points was 30.1 and playoffs went down to 24.4 ppg.
@spaltersar
@spaltersar 8 ай бұрын
Nice you didn't mention his rebounds went up in playoffs and leading the league in assists in 1967 playoffs, when he won his first championship. Wilt played the majority of playoff games when he reduced scoring and focussed on passing the ball and rebounding/defense in his later years. You are missing any context. Take a look at the stats for the first 6 playoffs Wilt played, maybe it will change your mind. When Wilt scored high, people say he was selfish and a ballhog, when he passed the ball and focussed on defense/rebounding, he had "poor play". Still fascinating. He only has 2 rings because the 60s Celtics had up to 8 HoF players (1963) in their roster. Period. In the early 70s he had to face the 7 HoF players Knicks. McGee has 3 rings with 3 different franchises. Is he better than Hakeem? Teams win championships, not individuals.
@spaltersar
@spaltersar 8 ай бұрын
Sorry, you are wrong. From 1973-2019 players were measured with shoes, Wilt and his competition were measured barefoot. Difference in average height of starting centers 1963 compared to 2021 is less than a half inch. No other player in NBA history faced more HoF players on his position per game (55%) than Wilt did. Physical attributes are part of players greatness. Nobody would discredit Jordan for his 48" vert or having the biggest hands in the league. Nobody discredits Shaq for having 330 lbs. Wilt scored 48 points or more (62 max) on Bill Russell in the '62 season 8 times. No competition? The 1962 Celtics had 7 HoF players in their roster. Even if Wilt would have been the tallest player in his era (he wasn't): If being taller than other players gives you so much advantage, I wonder why Manute Bol (7'7") averaged 2.7 ppg for career. You still need skill to score 40 ppg avg for 515(!) consecutive games (#2 in that category goes to Elgin Baylor, 33 games, Wilt also grabbed 25 rpg avg for those 515 games).

1) steph is number one because actually changed the way gane of basketball is played. The NBA was a completely different hand. -pick and role switches - mid range became obsolete -10 sec or less possession 2) Magic Johnson -fast break basketball -no look passed from a 6'9 point guard is crazy 3) Shaq -hack a Shaq rules -Shaq made a lot a centers money because you had to carry at least 3 just foul. Team had to carry extra centers just for him 4) Jordan really didn't change the game until his second 3peat. He took the triple threat position to another level. Kobe, Melo Joe Johnson followed..., Change the game means the game had to be play differently because of the guys. iverson, Lebron, Kobe didn't change the game itself: they changed how the marketed & viewed

Nobody has changed a singular sport the same way Steph has. That type of impact will never be replicated in the slightest. Forced entire generations of players to get on board or get left behind. LeBron who’s still far and wide the better player was forced to develop a long range game. His LeFuckYou 3s are Steph’s doing. Same with guys like Dame who was a conference rival.

Bird/magic- saved the league Jordan - made the individual more marketable AI - changed both the philosophy of being an undersized scoring guard, and the overall individuality of the players (the SWAG) Steph - reinvented acceptable offense in basketball AT EVERY LEVEL. Made the standard more skill based than any era ever.

I feel like when Curry first started getting the green light to shoot like he does by Kerr it wasn't bad as, while they would be considered bad shots, they still were within the offense. Later though, Curry just became an unconscionable chucker and was never--and should've been--reigned in. Reggie and Jesus Shuttleworth both would've produced similar numbers while very likely being far more efficient doing so.

Maybe I could add the dream, because his footwork was copied by pretty much any player, even kobe.

Stephs not the leagues all time best (I have him at #8 all time), but he changed the game by far more than anybody. He changed the definition of what an acceptable shot is, he made the slow footed paint clogging big man obsolete, he forced teams to train to be able to hit high volume 3’s because there was no way to beat him if you couldn’t keep pace with the 3. Now, every league at every level in every country has a 3 pt arsenal.
