I've been going to Broadway shows regularly since the late 60s. Of the *amazing* moments I have experienced in a theatre (from the audience side), seeing SJB in Falsettos, singing this song in particular, is in the small handful of absolute favorites. Her vocal skills, and her honest, truthful, heart-touching performance --- one of the great theatre joys of my life

I keep coming back to this song in 2024-2025. It’s kind of how most of us feel right now. Hearing her sing “everything will be alright” makes me want to believe it.
@debbiealden55155 жыл бұрын
The change in subtext when she says "theres always more!" Is so well done! Also I genuinely dont know if I've seen acting as good as this before! Its just completely natural for her and it looks like shes genuinely just exasperated and exhausted.

Just went to see Falsettos in a movie theater last Wednesday. What a treat that was. She was the standout in a great show. I was pretty much in tears from this song until the end of the show. She's insanely good.

@@anna-michellecourshon505 Sure sometimes Tonys make errors but I think Rachel Bay Jones really deserved it. Her performance as Heidi was really incredible, and same goes for SJB as Trina, but there's only one winner :( I think if I were the one chosing I would have given two Tonys exceptionally 😂😂

As brilliant as I'm sure she was as Cher I think somewhere in the cosmos she won the Tony for this performance. She brought everything to Trina, I think it's exceptionally challenging to play an ordinary person with their own doubts, flaws and growth and she nailed it. Her Trina is special in the sense that she just comes naturally and unobtrusively from Blocks mannerisms and physicality.

this performance left me in awe. it seems a bit more emotional and intimate than her on stage performances which i actually really enjoyed. god she's so INCREDIBLE

[TRINA] I was sure growing up I would live the life My mother assumed I'd live Very Jewish, very middle-class, and very straight Where healthy men stayed healthy men And marriages were long and great I smile, I don't complain I'm trying to keep sane as the rules keep changing Families aren't what they were Thank God there's a husband and a child Whom I adore But then there's more So many more There's always more Life is never what you planned Life is moments you can't understand And that is life I'm plain, I don't astound I hold to the ground As the ground keeps shifting Keeping my balance square Trying not to care about this man who Marvin loves But that's my life He shared my life Yes, that's my life Life is never what you planned Life is moments you can't understand And that is life Holding to the ground As the ground keeps shifting Trying to keep sane As the rules keep changing Keeping up my head As my heart falls out of sight Everything will be all right Everything will be all right

On a technical level i think this is quite flawless. Not necessarily as on board with the acting people are raving over. Not to say that it is bad! More that i think I’d need the sort of suspension of disbelief offered in the dark of a theatre and a stage. With that i imagine I’d be almost uncomfortable - struck with how good it actually is. That people can literally do this in front of so many people that strait up EXAMINING if their emotions appear legitimate is truly a feat. Humans are SO WEIRD. Every damn one of us. If you think you’re not, you’re the weirdest one of all! Some proof of this statement: my stupid ass commenting all of this 😅🥲
