comment your opinions on this book? are you excited for the movie? I'm kind of really sad that I'm uploading this video because it is the last one I have from when I was living in Brighton. :(

this book just starts sad and ends sad and as it was getting toward the end it felt rushed a little bit. I feel like that’s how it’s supposed to be tho, I don’t think there was ever supposed to be any closure or conclusion I think it was just meant to be sad which is fine but I’m curious to see what the movie will do :)

this is my fav book ever…i understand where you’re coming from with all the extra fluff and it being boring but as a whole, the novel is so beautifully poetic if that makes any sense. like if a museum was a book it would be this book

When I saw the first like 30 seconds of this video I knew I just had to stop the video, read the book and get back to it afterwards. I did that and I loved the experience of first reading it, then seeing some of the places in the book and seeing your takes!🥰

yess so true... the story is beautiful but you come out of it seeing flaws in all the character, but I do think that is the point of the book. it shows real life and in real life nothing is simple and you don't come out of anything unaffected.

I have to say, I can’t agree. I absolutely love this book, I cried and just felt crushed at the end, but I absolutely adored Robert’s writing, but I guess that is personal preferance. But it is for sure a 5 star book for me.

Hi Steph, you probably hear this all the time but your videos are amazing! They bring such joy and calmness into the world, and I cant really translate my thoughts into words at the moment but Im really thankful for your precense in this corner of KZbin. Thank you a million times over for just being you. You deserve a lifetime of good romance novels, fantastic coffee and an endless supply of magical glitter✨ P.S. I know you probably get a ton of book recommendations on the daily but have you ever heard of On the Jelicoe Road by Melina Marchetta or The Foxhole court trilogy by Nora Sakavic? Both have slowburn romances and found families in them and *clears throat* belong in a Godtier- if I do say so myself, but Im biased af. They are the only novels that have ever made me ball my eyes out (and I mean ugly-Kim-kardashian-crying😂) Thought they might interest you some day. Jellicoe road deals with dual time lines and drowns you with the feels (sort of second chance romance with a plethora of plot twists) and The foxhole court has a runaway, sports, sassy characters and the type of lovers that only The Song of Achilles could match😌👌🏻❤️

its not a romance book tho and a huge part of it is abt homophobia in the 60s. You literally cant expect that much romance. Tom and Patrick were together but on the pretext of a lie - toms marriage. Patricks previous boyfriend killed himself because someone found out he’s gay. It takes a while for Patrick to make a move on tom because Tom could be straight or have internalized homophobia and literally get Patrick killed for being gay. It is so much more than romance and it cant be read like romance. Even the romance scenes - that are beautifully written and every word carefully chosen to convey the love tom and patrick have for eachother, especially patrick - leave a sour taste in your mouth because they do that while deceiving Marion.

I enjoyed this book! I do think that there are parts missing, or I want to know more, but the topic is so important (still) and the characters well written. All of them have their flaws, but I know why they act or behave a certain way. Following up I recommend Oscar Wildes biography, as it helps understanding what life for LGBTQ+ people looked liked not too long ago. A lot has been achieved, but so much more to do! x
