She was outstanding in Benjamin Button it’s not just an OPRAH situation ITS THE MOVIE STUDIO that pays salaries! Benjamin Button movie grossed $400 million dollars and paid her only a measly $150,000 they KNOW HALF OF THAT GOES TO TAXES. She has to pay a team of agents a percentage! They paid her co-star $10 million dollars.

It’s a classic case of intersectionality. Actresses already aren’t paid as much as actors (when compared to men of similar status) but, just like with all things in this country, once you put “black” on top of it, the disparities become even more pronounced. It doesn’t matter how much you accomplish, you’re still Black and, therefore, aren’t worth as much as your accomplishments suggest.

I agree 100%. This is not just about an individual, it is about all of us. We, as a people, need to stand together and support each other. I am in a different profession, but I see this happen all the time to my black brothers and sisters (and other minorities, too). Sometimes you have to see yourself in other people, stand up/speak up for them and support them-- their struggle is your struggle in one way or another. Remember, it is always none of your business until it affects you, and trust me, it will affect you. I've also seen 'good' white people see what is going on and stay quiet while other minorities were treated or compensated unfairly compared to them. I am telling you now that your silence makes you complicit, and your silence will be remembered.

And that show had a Grammy nominated hitmaker, 2 well known comedians (Kim Coles from In Living Color fame and John Hinton) and a dynamic child actor. Fast forward to Friends who's biggest name of the show was Mrs Brad Pitt, and they were able to garner $1 million per episode EACH. Now, we're not counting other people's pockets, just pointing out examples of the disparties that Ms Henson, Ms Davis, Ms Bassett, and Ms Palmer are grappling with. Recognize people's value to your bottom line, and compensate accordingly. That's all we're saying.

Wait I heard 200k per episode, 400K per episode, and 450k per episode. These top tier actresses coming from movies to TV. And the “Friends “cast made 1 million an episode each. Some Soap opera veterans make 1 million an episodes, as they should for how long they have been on air, and the amount of work they do. Why? Any of the 3 women you named can act circles around (and have ) any of “The Friends “, any many others.

It’s not about acting, it’s not about skill. It’s about views and ratings. You know why Dave Chappell is the highest paid comedian ? Because people watch his stuff more than any other comedians. STEPHEN A. SMITH thank you for supporting the Black female actors in Hollywood. TARAI P. HENSON is one of our national treasures and we need her to stay in the profession. I pray more people will speak out about the disparity in salary for our beautiful, talented sistas. As major Black male actors work with our female actors, perhaps they will speak out about the low pay they are getting on a gig. Kudos to TYLER PERRY who was the first (probably only) studio to pay TARAJI a million dollars for her work in one of his films TARAJI stated at an awards show. So, in time this barrier will fall but it will take all of us to make it happen for our artists.

@prettyflower01 if people in the media are speaking on her behalf, it's because she most likely allowed and encouraged them to do so. She clearly wants the narrative in the industry to be, that she's underpaid. Most of these entitled actors are delusional, out of touch and view themselves as something they simply aren't in many cases. Like I said before if she continues to be difficult and demand more than she's worth she won't get much more work in Hollywood. Same thing happened to Gabrielle union.

@prettyflower01
@prettyflower01 5 ай бұрын
hello @@Michael-tc1dm - not planning to spend a lot more time on this because you're really sharing your opinions on things in a wildly exaggerated fashion that's just as much delusional as you credit "entitled actors". ANYBODY can send a tweet or create a KZbin segment just as Stephen did WITHOUT Taraji's "allowing" or "encouraging" them to do so. Hollywood is a very small bubble -- especially black Hollywood - where most of the working actors know each other. ANYONE of them can decide to send out a tweet in full support of her remarks because of their first-hand experiences and know the struggle is real. "If she continues to be difficult and demands more than she's worth" sheds light on the questions I asked you that you conveniently ignored. NO. You don't work in the industry. NO. You don't work in entertainment. Taraji is creative talent and do not engage in these types of discussions with lawyers and executives in business and legal affairs on behalf of the studios - her agents and lawyers do. So there. She's not being difficult or demanding! ALL AGENTS are going to pitch for the highest pay for their clients because they receive a direct commission thereof. And you're assuming that she "personally" requested $500K for the project she referenced when in fact it may have been a starting figure her agent threw on the table. "Same thing happened to Gabrielle Union"...okay, this is where I check out. The issue on the "reality show" AMERICA'S GOT TALENT is entirely different that Taraji. Really? Go onto IMDb and check out Gabrielle's work in "scripted" TV and film directly thereafter. So essentially, in her case, one monkey don't stop no show. Good day and Merry Christmas.
