Guy is so down to earth. I feel like he is what holds this shit together. Awesome dude. Hands down one of the best! Not based on his skill but attitude. Guy just wants to play. Super creative but yet simple but still has a sound that you just can’t recreate. Been listening since 95 and I hope I am jamming it down the road taking my kids to school in a few years. I love the deftones!

Love the deftones. Love Steph's guitar playing. Actually bought one of his signature guitar. It was ok and I know it's not for everyone, but it wasn't for me. I wondered if he ever heard of Shuriken guitars?

Well that explained very little. What exactly are the tonal differences between this and the default Fishman modern? Any chance of a side by side in the future?
@ジュリアン-q9z8 жыл бұрын
They are eq a little differently. Where the OG were a lot like an 81 updated for today with passive and active voicings. Stef's is hotter with more body but no muddyness and offers an additional voicing that pumps it up even more. Stef's pickups are like fishman moderns eq better and with the biggest balls you could ever imagine a pickup having.
@ジュリアン-q9z8 жыл бұрын
I would say that it is a lot like both. It has the output and cleanness of an active pickup but it is neither compressed nor sterile. It is honestly more like a passive pickup in the way of that it is very open and big sounding unlike the sometimes very compressed sound of common active pickups. To answer your question on how they compare to the modern set, their are not extremely different because this set was based on them but there is a definite difference, the stef pickups sound a little more hot, open, and passive-esque in my opinion. Think of the Stefs like Fishman modern 2.0. . Another great Pickup I suggest you look into as well is The Devin Townsend Transcendence Pickups, those are killer as well.
@5urg3x8 жыл бұрын
That's the main question I have...I wanna get these for my bday in a few weeks but I'm not sure which ones I should get -- the "Modern" 7 string version or Steph's signature versions. I wish they made the Devin Townsend set in a 7 string version, I'd get those, no question. I really want a pickup that is going to be able to handle both clean and distorted high gain tones; and I know Devin's signature fluence pups can do that; but they are six string only :(
@ジュリアン-q9z8 жыл бұрын
surgeyX i would probably go for the Stefs if I were you. A little more bang for your buck in my opinion. to me they are more so a perfected version of the modern than they are an alternate. I find them to be vastly superior in pretty much every way to the moderns.
@5urg3x8 жыл бұрын
Eh...I'm leaning against them and more to the modern 7s; alnico in neck and maybe ceramic in bridge; but I might go for alnico in the bridge, gotta see if I can hear some more demos. My fear is the Steph models will be just too loud to do any kind of clean tones very well, and I use my 7 string for clean stuff all the time.

If I dont buy Stephen's Fishmans, can I just use some glow in the dark paint or is that uneven line on the pickups part of how they work? Its a legit question I'm a noob. I just want to change my blackouts for fishmans on my 8 string.

He just liked how they sounded compared to EMG, they probably just voiced it more for chords and low tuning, probably brought him some prototypes a couple times 🤷♂️

I'm not an active pickup fan, i love passives. So i have question for the active pickup players here. Lately i see lot of guitar players jumping ship to Fishman, almost all seem to be Emg players. Do they really have huge difference or is it just a trend? I looked at fishman's site they make, passive pickups as well, but you almost dont see players from Dimarzio or Seymour Duncan switching to Fishman's. So what is the thing here? Thanks

@alejandrocisneros74426 жыл бұрын
It's the new trend! But who can blame them? I mean 1 pickup is 3 pickups without compromising sounds! Now if DiMarzio or Seymour Duncan can make the same without the need of batteries and cheaper! Then they will go back to those companies lol. I feel like is mostly all the EMG guys (metalheads that jumped ships) to fluence fishman besides Tosin.

Deftones were so much better in the first 3 albums when Stef was in control creatively. As soon as Chino started stepping up, playing guitar, trying to influence the direction.. the result is the remaining several albums which are significantly weaker.

surgeyX: And they use the boring ESP/LTD headstock as well. For fuck's sake, ESP, make more use of your cool headstocks. Like on this one: www.iguitarmag.com/media/328523/esp-ltd-aj-1-andy-james-signature.jpg?preset=item-1
@5urg3x8 жыл бұрын
Ehh...I'm not a big fan of 3/3 headstocks when it comes to seven strings It has to be 4/3 and it just ends up looking asymmetrical Music man does it good with the JP model but I believe they have that trademarked, so no one else can use it I like the pointy ones with straight through string pull though It's iconic, and it makes it easier to do behind the nut bends
@WolfieboyMachi8 жыл бұрын
surgeyX: How is the JP one NOT asymmetrical, though?
@5urg3x8 жыл бұрын
You're right, but EBMM does the best asymmetrical headstocks in the business...They have the whole 4+2 / 5+2 thing trademarked as well. They are all straight pull / through the nut to the tuners as well, so the strings won't bind in the nut due to the angle. Just my opinion though :O I think the 3/3 leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of the les paul and how badly they designed that headstock due to the angle the strings take to the tuners. At least the ESP one you linked doesn't have that problem.
