I know that name! Oh man, there aren’t that many people who know Stephen Gammell by name, but anyone who read Scary Stories at least knows him by reputation. I learned his name because I once accidentally bought a version of Scary Stories that didn’t have his illustrations. Let me tell you, the stories are a great piece of research and storytelling from Alvin Schwartz, but it’s Stephen who made those books stick.

A beautiful and fantastic video for a beautiful and fantastic illustrator. His work is so influential in my own style- the charcoal and graphite style that mimics blotches and drips of watercolor is genius and evocative.
