Definitely, Skip really tried to discredit his achievement. To be so durable to never had a major injury, let alone a minor injury like tendinitis, or sprained ankle playing the way he plays has just never been seen. Honestly the way Lebron’s career is going he can possibly end up with 38k points 10k reb 10k assists. End up as the all time points leader, though he won’t have the 6 rings to show, he has 3 rings and that’s more rings than many legends and hof’ers have. I’m a Lebron fan but seriously we can’t discredit any achievements by anybody. Kobe averaging 35ppg one season, Westbrooks triple dub season, Curry’s unanimous Mvp season, once these guys retire we’ll really miss seeing them.

At this point I’m done with arguing who the greatest of all time is for the sport of basketball. There is no definitive answer bc there are so many different eras of the sport and so many factors that go into who the greatest is. I believe that we should just look for who was the greatest for their era. Let’s go by decade. 1960s: Bill Russel 1970s: Kareem 1980s: Magic Johnson 1990s: Michael Jordan 2000s: this one is tough so I have 3, shaq, Duncan, and Kobe 2010s: Lebron James This is really the only way to look at it. We can’t have all these players together in their primes to see who is better. That’s why you can only go by the era in which they played.

Strange how longevity stats don't matter here but thats the only kind of stat that places TB as the greatest ever. Sure he has the most SB wins and it is undeniable that he is a great qb. But most of the stats used to prove he is the GOAT is longevity stats. That being said, longevity stats matter. And should matter a lot. Cause they only come from being great over a long time. And thats hard.

Jordan played against 26 50W teams in the playoffs and went 19-7. Lebron played 21 50W teams and went 12-9. So Lebron already collected more Ls while facing less elite teams than MJ. This is not close. Lebron was merely a modern day Wilt Chamberlain. Lots of individual stats but unable to convert them into enough Ws.

I know he’s a scorer. I said he wasn’t a great scorer or a versatile scorer. He gets his buckets with his physicality or his set jump shot. Compare that to Durant, MJ, or Kobe who can get consistent post up fadeaways, take you off the dribble, step backs, and have higher free throw percentages. They are more versatile. Those are the great scorers. Next time, actually watch basketball or learn to read.

Honestly, the truth is no one can judge nor should we judge who’s the best ever, like what does that even accomplish? Bragging rights? And what does bragging rights accomplish? Nada. They are both great. Why try to diminish another just to make one look good. I like good basketball conversation, but trying to figure that out is literally impossible. And not just those two, you can add a bunch of other greats in there as well. Every legend played their part, just those two along with Kobe and Magic and Bird were just more popular and their style of play attracted more fans. Lebron saying he’s trying to catch a ghost, or saying he’s one of a kind, or all the other stuff he says is just pure genius business tactics he’s learned. He keeps his name and brand flowing through news cycles daily.

Another thing....if you watched basketball in the 80's and 90's you know about the illegal defense rule that prohibited zone defenses. Well nowadays zone defense is legal. I think the game has become harder just because teams dont have to play 1-1 defense. Much harder to play iso ball versus back then. Jordan lived off iso ball.

Michael Jordan is the GREATEST basketball player EVER! LeBron James is the BEST basketball player EVER! There is a difference. Let me explain... Being the greatest in your field doesn't necessarily mean you're the best. Michael Jordan stood out WAY above his peers at a time when the NBA was still becoming a global sport. Much of how Michael Jordan is perceived today has a lot to do with how he was marketed. He was the focal point of the league. Today, the league has many other stars: Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden to name a few. LeBron doesn't stand out among those players the way Jordan did in his era. Lebron James, however, is a better athlete, hands down. Look at his physique and the incredible moves he has made over the years. Jordan is not his equal in this regard. Jordan has more rings than LeBron, but so too does Robert Horry. In fact, Horry has seven rings, one more than Jordan. So rings can't logically be the primary measure of excellence because no one would place Horry's skill level over Jordan or LeBron. The teams that LeBron has been on would not have made it to the finals without him, so even though he lost many of those finals matches, just getting as far as he did speaks volumes about his skill level. He's been to the final 7 straight times, remember that! Look at it this way: Floyd Mayweather Jr. by most boxing experts is a far more skillful fighter than Muhammed Ali. However, Ali is a greater boxer in the eyes of most people. That's because he meant a whole lot more to the sport than Mayweather ever will-- and rightfully so. Greatness and best are not necessarily one and the same.

LeBron James has constantly been surrounded by shooters so ofcourse he should average more assists than MJ considering he is a ball dominate point forward. Let's include the fact that he averages a lot more turnovers than MJ did. Tbh, for his size and athletic ability he should average more rebounds than he actually does. LeBron is a great player, but sorry dude. MJ did more in a shorter timeframe. & those subliminal messages of saying you are one of a kind and all doesn't make you the goat. I'm still a LeBron fan though and individual stats plus rings matter if you are the franchise player. Sorry Michael will hold the GOAT title even if if he scored 40,000 points.

Lebron really doesnt chase stats in my view... I feel like he can do sooo much more than he does but he don't want to overwork his body and also he wants his teammates to feel apart of the team, so he step back at times. I know you wish he had a MJ mentality but he doesnt.. he wins different and everyone know LeBron is built like he was born to be the GOAT... And he will be when its all said and done.. every year his game convinces millions into believing he's better than Jordan.

Jordan was surrounded by shooters too. He just wasn’t a passer.

The triangle is not a system where one player constantly looks to pass to spot up shooters, which is what lebron does. Argument invalid. Also, 3-point shots weren't as common as they are now. Argument invalid. And Jordan didn’t have as many shooters on his team. Argument invalid AGAIN.
@AbuOsama29
@AbuOsama29 6 жыл бұрын
Didn’t say anything about the system, didn’t say anything about the 3 point volume. Paxson, Kerr, Kukoc were excellent 3 point shooters. That’s all I’m saying the OP. Jordan had shooters, so not having any isnt why he has less assists then LeBron. MJ wasn’t looking to pass.
@Benzene21
@Benzene21 6 жыл бұрын
Obviously, you didn’t say anything about the system or volume. That’s the point. Your argument has no context. Jordan never had as many shooters and 3-points shots weren’t as common. Give him better scorers and shooters and his assists go up.

Here's some more stats. 0-1 vs Dirk, 1-2 vs Duncan, 1-2 vs KD, 1-3 vs Steph in finals. Played alongside 14 all stars in the east which accounts for 25% of all eastern starters in his 15 seasons in the east, a league record volume for an mvp winner, and could never even reach the playoffs as the lone all star on his roster. Only mvp in league history to lose both at an Olympic and a FIBA level by taking home bronze at the 2004 Olympics and bronze again at the 2006 World Championships, lost to a Greece team that was void of any NBA players, and was on Team USA when they became the first roster to not win gold since The Dream Team. Three finals mvp awards while his direct small forward match up has won it four times, Kawhi Leonard, Andre Iguodala and Kevin Durant twice in a row now. Is one of three players in league history to average more than four turnovers at least three times in their career and is inside the top five all time list in turnovers committed. Had to join forces with two of the other top five picks from his own draft class to win his first championship after nine seasons in the league, that would have been the equivalent of Michael Jordan teaming up with Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon, and he still lost as the favorite in two out of four finals appearances with that organisation. He has never won a championship without at least two team mates averaging above 20ppg each, Wade and Bosh with Miami, Love and Irving with Cleveland. Only one player in league history has lost more finals games and more finals series, and only one finals mvp in league history has a worse finals winning percentage than his 33.3% and that is Jerry West's 11.1%. He has only had to face 10 50+ win teams in the playoffs while playing for multiple organisations. With the most all star caliber team mates in league history, he has been swept in the finals twice, lost a series by a world record 71 point deficit, lost a close out game by a world record 23 point margin in which he only attempted four field goals in the entire second half, has two separate series of only mustering one win equating to two victories out of four entire series, and has been outplayed and outscored by the opposing team's 6th man who averaged 11 less minutes per game for the series. Since 2006 Lebron has shot 8-for-51 on game winning and go ahead field goals with under 10 seconds remaining in regulation and overtime, just 15.6% on game-deciding shots (couldn't find data prior to 2006, maybe none were attempted). He says he is not a scorer but it is the only thing he has lead the league in other than minutes, which he did once back in 2008. Has only captured seven playoff records in his career which is dwarfed by the 42 that Michael Jordan captured, and it took him 57 more playoff games just to catch Jordan in total points registered. Has led the playoffs in turnovers in the same year as having the absolute worst defensive efficiency rating out of all active players in the same post season, 2018. He has only played all 82 regular season games one time in his career. 5 all defensive first team selections out of 15 seasons of eligibility thus far, meaning he was the league's premiere small forward defender for just one third of his career. He has not caught many of his contemporaries in championship titles, players like Kobe Bryant with 5, Tim Duncan with 5, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili with 4 each, while many others have matched him, Dwayne Wade, Sam Cassell and Steph Curry all with 3 each. Three championships in 15 full seasons of play, giving him a championship probability of 20%, compared to Michael Jordan who went for six in 13 full seasons of play for a 46% probability, more than double LeBron's. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat have both won championships in the modern era without LeBron, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have captured division titles and conference finals appearances without LeBron. The Chicago Bulls have never in their history made it to a conference finals appearance without Michael Jordan on their roster. Since Michael Jordan won his last championship in 1998, the entire eastern conference has won the same amount of championships in 20 years as he himself won in a seven year span of his playing career. LeBron has never had that type of impact on a team, a roster, an organisation let alone an entire conference. Their names don't belong in the same sentence.

also the only player to lead both teams in a playoff series in all 5 categories; mind you, he did this in the finals. he averages more pts than mj while facing elimination. the most trip-dubs in finals history. all-time leader in play-off pts. the 1st player to average a trip-dub in a finals. this is not saying he's the goat, its just saying he's unique just like the rest of the greats INCLUDING mj. just me acknowledging greatness still in work.

I see a distinct difference in these 2 players and it kinda shows to me why Jordan is the GOAT. Jordan, sure, he played on the Bulls and played with Phil Jackson, one fantastic coach, but Jordan played in a system. And it was the Triangle system no less, probably the hardest system to ever play in. He didn't hog the ball and he played through that system with his tenure with Phil Jackson. While as we look at Lebron and the style he plays, it's one system and that's Lebron's system. It's called ISO ball or in cheese terms 5 out. This is where Lebron, in a half court set, takes the ball up himself and tells everyone to clear out on the 3PT line. This is especially cheese because who can guard Lebron on a drive? No one. So it's either he drives right past his defender and gets a wide open dunk or layup, or if someone comes to help, he can kick it out to a most of the time (except in D Wade's case in Miami) a good to great 3PT shooter. That to me, makes my argument on offence. And on defence, all Lebron does great is chase down blocks. Other than that, he's really declined. He's never been a steals leader, which MJ has been 3 times, Lebron has never been a DPOY and MJ has. It's basic to me. MJ is the GOAT and this is not coming from a hater of Lebron. I LOVE Lebron. I appreciate his greatness. He's the best player since this century came around and I ain't afraid to say that. But he just is never going to be the GOAT

Shannon did have a point, dont get me wrong without question mj is the best sg ever to play to the game but what was he best at? Winning and defense = bill russell he took a 30 win team to 8 straight and 11 in 12 years and he wasnt a great scorer he did average 15ppg which is aite but he was a defensive force Scoring = kareem i mean this man was the most unstoppable player in nba history the one individual with the unstoppable move or wilt chamberlain because he averaged 50ppg and 25 rebs and no one averaged more ppg when wilt chose to score Rebounding = wilt chamberlain thats not arguement Assists = magic johnson but id like to say johnny stockton he was the most complete pg to ever play and his passes werent flashy but smart All rounder = lbj no doubt Ill give mj one thing him and kobe = box office.. there are no 2 players with maybe allen iverson who were as fun to watch as kobe and mj
