For a black man, all you have to do is be there and black and they will say you are aggressive, combative, and threatening. Simply walking down the street teaches every black man that truth. That cop obviously did not intend to simply give the man a ticket. That cop profiled Sterling as soon as he saw him. The cop will never admit it but I bet as soon as he saw the chain, the hair style, the cloths, and the confidence, he was thinking drug dealer and maybe there's drugs in the expensive car he is driving. The cop might have even thought that they could confiscate the car under civil forfeiture. That way the car becomes their money eventually. That's why he called for back up. That cop wasn't going to leave until he searched the car. Also, Sterling Brown was not intimidated by the cop. That pisses off cops. As soon as back up arrives and they surround you, expect an ass whipping. That's how they do. Once they surround you, they will create a reason to take you down. They'll tell you to take your hands out of your pocket for example and then before you can act, they are on you. All of them at once. Pulling you in different directions while telling you to stop resisting. Even if you let your body go completely limp they will say you resisted. Also, the cop didn't need Sterling's drivers license at all and should not have asked for it as he had no reason. Sterling wasn't stopped while driving. It was a parking violation. All the information needed is on the car. Even when Sterling showed up, the officer should have simply written the ticket and handed it to him or put it on the car. It's like when you walk up on a traffic officer writing you a parking ticket. While you protest and maybe ask the officer to give you a break, the officer simply writes the ticket and puts it on the car or hands it to you. Presenting your drivers license in this situation is not only unnecessary it is also a violation of police procedure and your fourth amendment rights. On his report, the cop probably made something up that suggest he had probable cause or reasonable suspicion to ask for ID. My advice to Mr. Sterling Brown is to make them feel this so maybe they will think twice before doing this to another black man. By the way, I have no confidence the officer will be fired or even disciplined in any way. They might promote him.

When officer asks to show your hands, and you refuse, they don’t feel safe since they start to worry you might be hiding a weapon. Thus the situation escalates, now they will force you to show your hands using force. Fortunately he wasn’t shot. Tasing is dangerous too, you could fall and hit your head in the ground. Why Kneel? Take this incident for example. Here is a completely empty parking lot, this fellow parks outside his parking spot and is tased. What exactly is there to respect about a guy who parks across multiple handicap parking spaces and then refuses to follow simple clear directions by the police? If he'd just done as instructed from the first he'd have driven off with a parking ticket. The only real privilege he doesn't have is "not acting like a spoiled child" privilege. He showed no respect towards the cop, didn't follow his instructions when confronted by the cop when he is clearly wrong, he even tried to intimidate the cop. (Just adding my two cents.) When a cop ask someone to back up/ step aside it's because the officer feels threaten and has been trained on safety measures. (PLEASE NOTICE) It's all based on the policemen's individual perspective of their own safety. So they can legally justify targeting BLACKS or anyone for that matter based on perception. QUESTION: WHAT REASONABLE DANGER COULD ARMED POLICEMEN PERCEIVE, that warrants six other officers as back up for an unarmed (Black) person over a parking violation, that results in force (police brutality)? I remind you this person is question has no criminal history or current warrants for arrest. Final thought... If this incident happened to another professional athlete of a different race/ethnicity would this be a BIGGER deal? -open for dialogue.

I saw the video and the dirty cop, had no clue. Mr Brown should this man and the city to the full extent of the law. And that dirty cop should be prosecuted for assault. After the officer called what appeared to be 7 other officers, they found an excuse to attack the lawful citizen and stun him. Black man can't even go to the drug store for aspirin. This cop shouldn't be a cop. He was confrontational to the extreme. That suspect hadn't broken any major laws; he should have been given a warning or asked to move at the least or given a ticket at most. He explained to the cop why he'd parked erratically and what he was doing. Hell, people do worst than that in traffic on a Saturday afternoon in a suburban setting. The suspect hadn't done anything. All the dirty cop had to do if he suspected something untoward was file a report entering his license & plate and number. Cop continues going on and on being confrontational with the gentleman. Cop is trying to egg the gentleman on. The cop is honestly in idiot and shouldn't be a police officer. This cop should be someplace where he can't cause any harm. He's going to eventually place someones' life in danger if not murder someone. He's a "dirty" cop.

Funny, this is the same Stephen Jackson who went into the stands and assaulted spectators at a basketball game, the ole' Malice at the Palace, If Sterling Brown complied with commands, he wouldnt have gotten tased, when an officer says take your hands out of your pockets, and you refuse to and say no, i have something in them, then i dont feel sorry when the police officer is reacting by tasing to ensure safety at the scene after non compliance.

I have the solution. When this happens, (1) the officer should be charged with malicious wounding for tasing.(2) Fire eveyone in the chain of command up to the captain. (3) Make this a federal law. I can guarantee this incident reduce dramatically.

Basic breakdown Sterling Brown had use bathroom rushed in. He had parked over two handicap spots. When he came out cops was there and wanted to question him. They both walked up together. The cops told him to back up. The cops pushed him alil when he said it. Cop then called for back up. Sterling Brown never backed up. Asked why cop put his hands on him when he walked up on him. Sterling says no I'm walking to get in my car. Cop says no you walked on me and then says I want you to backup because your going try get in your car. Sterling then gives him a look and shows his hands n backs up like a inch. Cop then asks his name. He said his name cop asked again and said it again. Cop said something about ppl having fake IDs and him not wanting to give his name. Also Sterling giving him a crazy look like the cops is stupid. Cop backup arriving. Sterling ask why you calling for backup can you write me a ticket. Cops said I am but we gonna talk to you. Cops arrive and there talking I guess while talking Sterling puts hands in pockets somebody says loud take your hand out your pockets while he surrounded by 6 cops who are like inches away. He doesn't get a chance to comply he brought down and is tasered. What he did wrong he didn't play defense. He simply didn't allow the cop to "lecture him or step back " which is what police no matter the color or sex want to do with black ppl. Keep this in mind when dealing with anybody who feels they have authority over you

If the officer had just written the ticket, we would not be having this discussion either. That's what a patrolmans ticket book is supposed to be used for... write the ticket, then move on to other higher priority incidents. Lets be clear, I see patrol officer drive by fender benders, with property damage - and never stop.. even when drivers are waving at them... they don't even slow down! You guys are pulling on a thread, unraveling a sweater for no other reason than deperatly needing to waning to "win". Just snip the tread, that way the sweater is save and you can stay warm.

He didn’t get tasered for being black. He didn’t get tasered for parking illegally. He got tasered for refusing to comply with a simple command to take his hands out of his pockets which is for safety concerns. That will happen no matter what your skin color. And to just think if Sterling wasn't arrogant and parked his car across 3 spots 2 of which were handicap this whole incident would've never occurred. However he did do that and when confronted by the officer he immediately became sarcastic. I guess this is a problem with famous people alike, because they feel as if their famous status should grant them special privilege. Of course everyone wants to make this about race race race. Why not make it about race as that makes great news stories.
