I read this in 2017, and I had forgotten all about the pound cake thing. Lol. That was pretty cheesy, but it was a great book. I love the concept of time travel and this definitely made me want to go back to the 50's and 60's. And yes I agree, this is a book for any one, no matter what genre you normally read.

Something I absolutely love about this book is the way Jake's teaching career is shown while he's living in Jodie. The way King writes teacher characters like Johnny Smith always fascinated me because of how earnest they were portrayed, and how much of an impact they have on the students they teach. The mice and men play and both Jodie jamborees are some of my favourite moments from any book because of this

One of my favourites of his! I think it might be his best book. I actually lent this to my Nana who's never read anything along the lines of King before and she loved it! What you said about recommending it to everyone is true! One of my favourites is The Dead Zone and I loved 11.22.63 because it's basically the opposite of The Dead Zone plot wise.

The Grandfather question is easier to dismiss. What if a person who was alive in 1958 or shortly after meets their past self? My Dad theorized that you would disappear. I know you only talk Stephen King here, but one time travel story I've read made a rule that you cannot travel back to a time when you are already alive.
@DaveReadsKing8 ай бұрын
That’s a smart rule, but would rob us of the brilliance of Back to the Future!

It turns out He- jake , ends up killing Kennedy- this time, to set the timeline bk to like it was when Kennedy died the first time. My fav SK book. 10 out 10. Great review as usual. TECHNICAL POINT: you need a microphone other than the built-in on your camera. The video image/lightning are superb. The sound is really bad. Voice sounds hollow. HAVE A LOOK at some other good YT videos with the person talking to the camera. A few years ago maybe this wasn't such a big deal. In 2022 a video with bad sound stands out for the worse.
@DaveReadsKing2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the sound is 'really' bad - it's not ideal, I know, but I have to make use of the equipment I have access to. I can't afford to invest in anything new at the moment and you are literally the first person in almost two years who has said my videos have 'bad' sound.
@Santi_4072 жыл бұрын
@@DaveReadsKing If I tell you is because the sound doesn't match the image quality (or content quality, for that matter). You don't need one of those mikes used by streamers on Twitch, just to put the mike next to your neck (or throat/mouth). Even clip-on wireless microphones are really cheap.

Isn’t there a big plot hole though? Can’t Jake kill Oswald up and up? When Jake returns to the diner, he sees if Kennedy died or not. If K is in fact still alive, Oswald killled him. Jake stays in the diner. If Kennedy is dead, Oswald is inocent, so he,Jake, leaves the diner once more through the time portal then steps bk into the diner visa the time portal and, wola, Oswald is bk in business?
@DaveReadsKing6 ай бұрын
Maybe, but what time travel story doesn’t have plot holes and complications? Besides, for me the heart of this book is Jake and Sadie rather than the Kennedy stuff

For me, this is book is fairly overrated. I still enjoyed it, I gave it 3 stars. I found the first 300-400 pages to be really good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the romance elements he introduces. I think if he would have stuck with the initial premise and made it a much shorter novel, I would have enjoyed it more. Certainly not a bad book, but everyone and their mom puts it in their top 5, or it's their favorite King book, that's why I think it's overrated.
