Little bit of little known werewolf lore: silver isn’t actually harmful to them. Way back before guns werewolves were the explanation for smart wolves who could confound their hunters, and they were just super strong and crafty, but could still be killed by normal means. When guns were invented wolves weren’t too much of a threat anymore, so the legend adapted. The first legend specified a BLESSED silver bullet. Silver was used because for one it’s rare enough to make it hard to kill a werewolf, and two because it’s got a ‘magical’ link to the moon from which the werewolf derives its power. Basically contamination magic like voodoo or modern day homeopathy. “This is like this, therefore it has power over it.” So what happens when you shoot a werewolf with a blessed silver bullet is; the blessing is transferred from the bullet to the werewolf via the silver. The blessing cures the person of their lycanthropy. Then they transform back into a regular person, who has just been shot and dies.

.....I think that's a werebear. They have more muscle and move a tad slower than a werewolf does. Still, I wouldn't recommend being chased by one in the open field.
