Tim should not have driven to the police station when Stephen was sitting in his car - he should have followed Stephen's directions to turn left and driven home so as not to make things worse - I mean he already phoned the police about the body - driving to the police station with Stephen in the car only alerted Stephen that Tim was onto him (not that Stephen did not know that) - maybe Tim should have stopped the car when he saw Stephen start taking his tie off.
