but it isn't though in this context. If a person isn't getting deals like they should and someone in a position of power says he is unmarketable, whether its true or not that's the reason he is not getting deals, because the people giving deals already have a negative opinion on him. So now as a journalist if people in the public are wondering these things, you can put an end to that wonder by stating what the people in power think of him. its not "rumor mill" unless hes just straight up lying about the source which there is zero reason to believe he is.

@danielscott7985 The MVP award is based on play, NOT on marketable. I'll ask you this between Tatum and Jaylen. Who have you seen in more commercials? TV ads? Even head to head billboards on TV between teams? That's what it means by marketable, NOT his game. This has been going on for YEARS. Look at AI during the early 2000s his play was unbelievable, but do you remember seeing many ads on him vs. his other stars. NBA isn't just able the on court shows. It's also about who they can use to sell the product that is the NBA. Yes, people will watch the games, but if I'm trying to sell sneakers I don't JUST want kids who like basketball in them I want people who know this player is a good dude outside if the court in order to create a brand.

Credibility does not equal blind trust, nor is it an excuse for libel (publishing harmful information about a person that damages their reputation). I listen to Stephen A a lot, and it’s my opinion he missed the mark on that day. They were talking about JB when he got the text, and he immediately shared that information with America. It could be from a Nike exec, it could be Ime Udoka, it could be Brad Stephens… that kind of open-ended “just throwing it out there” gossip talk, as JB pointed out, is questionable for a MAN’s integrity, not even considering the journalist aspect.

It is IRRESPONSIBLE as a journalist to spread information from an "unnamed source", without doing your own research first to verify if it is true or not, plain and simple! There is no way of determining if that source has a personal beef against Jaylen Brown or their own personal agenda to keep him from succeeding, for whatever reason. SAS just likes to make headlines and cause controversy. If an "unnamed source" at ESPN said how bad a person SAS was, he would want to know who they were as well as discredit them immediately!

Someone needs to go on ESPN and say, “sources say SAS is an idiot. Some people have said that. Not me but some people.”

If someone like a professional athlete is deemed unmarketable by a source than that's personal! They have to provide for people and marketability is a part of that. So it's personal

There was nothing positive about what the source had to say. It was even on unwarranted and unsolicited. But the bigger question is, “why did Stephen a Smith feel? It was necessary to read on air what the unnamed source had to say about Jaylen Brown in the first place?“ He obviously was looking for traction and clicks himself. That’s the only reason I could think of yet and still, he pretends to have so much love and respect for Jaylen Brown.

It’s going be even harder for him to get the recognition and respect he deserves when ur telling the whole world….”4 people …not me tho….but 4 of my sources say he’s not marketable “ to ur huge audience! Majority of us didn’t even know companies felt that way

Black men that stand up for altruistic reasons are never celebrated at the time, only years after they’ve been hated enough. MLK jailed and assassinated, Malcom X jailed and assassinated, Jackie Robinson intimidated and targeted, Bill Russell heckled and home invaded, Muhammad Ali blackballed, Collin Kaepernick blackballed, etc

Stephen A is right. Un-named sources and private reporting in just apart of journalism / news. Jalen Brown just took the unnamed source report / opinion personal. Jalen is trying to break parts of a systematic culture. Systematic entities don't like that.
