Love your info on hummingbirds! I recently found out most of their diet is actually insects after I found them swarming gnats/fruit flies from my compost bin, such lovely creatures for the garden.

I just love my Hummingbirds. I just set in the gardens and watch them, so peaceful. Also watch the Finches, so many different sunflowers now. This year started a couple that are supposed to be a very deep purple or black, excited to see how they turn out. Subscribed and hit the bell. Thank you 🌻

@@stephenbahrmarbles Yes, my sister in law found a seed pkg. in Ohio and I started them. She took 5 plants and I got five. They are mixed in with the yellow and brownish yellow plants now. Soooooo I am patiently waiting for one to open. The others are starting to open. I am pretty sure she got the pkg from Menards in Toledo. Should have gotten 2 or 3 pkg. 🙄 If one opens and I can figure out how to, I will send you s picture.

Hi there - I’ve been watching your hummingbird videos all morning on this dreary January day, planning for the spring!! Your garden is truly magical and inspirational. Have you had any success growing vines together?? For instance two different honeysuckle vines or one early blooming, one later blooming? Or one perennial, one annual?
@stephenbahrmarbles
@stephenbahrmarbles Жыл бұрын
Hi Urchin thank you ! Yes Spring is coming quickly! I almost always let my annual vines grow on the perennials , and let the perennials act as a trellis, they really don’t seem to mind. I have a couple of different varieties of Loniceras growing together but they are still young. I don’t think they will mind either as long as there’s structure for the both of them. Good luck this season!🌱

@@stephenbahrmarbles Thank-you!! That’s a great idea! I have some English Ivy growing up my fence, I can plant some purple hyacinth vines or similar there💡 😃 I’m also planning on growing a honeysuckle or two outside my sunroom - my nursery has Alabama crimson in stock and also Dropmore scarlet - do you happen to have any opinion of which the hummers (and me) would prefer? Zone 7A northern virginia (my tree form SHOAL CREEK VITEX is my #1 pollinator plant)
@stephenbahrmarbles
@stephenbahrmarbles Жыл бұрын
Ok cool ✅ I don’t have any experience with dropmore but I’m sure it will attract them. Alabama crimson will 100% draw them in . Try to thin out you Ivy as much as possible, it’s not really beneficial to any of the pollinators and it is very aggressive (that’s just my opinion ) best of luck!

Fabulous where can I get seeds for these especially the different varieties of honeysuckle?
@stephenbahrmarbles
@stephenbahrmarbles Жыл бұрын
Hi Geri . The Loniceras are berry producers . Young plants and cuttings are the only way to get or purchase them from what I’ve seen . If you live in Barbados you should have a very large selection of plants that will attract hummingbirds, there are tons of tropical plants that should work for you .

@@stephenbahrmarbles thanks but some of the best but limited plants for pollinators are very invasive like Corlita/ coral vine. That's why I was reaching out for suggestions plus some of your flowers featured are fragrant even in the day.
