RichardJLC why are fan films so much better than the real Star Wars...?!???
@richNfit4life5 жыл бұрын
Some fan films...are better than the “official” Star Wars movies. I cannot say that it is true for all of them. But many of them are better, if I must compare. The same for Star Trek. Why? Deeper character development; more relatable to the viewer/to me; attention to the small details, especially from the low budget, lone fan film creator... I just really appreciate the so-called “nobody” who has a passion to create these shorts where they write the story themselves and sometimes even write their own music themes and build sets, film it, edit it, add all the visual & sound special effects and then present it for the world to see and enjoy. That takes creativity and courage. These are people worth supporting and who inspire me to do the same in my artistic passions. Guess, sometimes, I need permission.

Not only was this a brilliant film... but it was completely in keeping with the mythos of the Star Wars universe. It is amazing how you were able to infuse such characterization into something that was less than seven minutes long. If you had the time and the budget, I could see Hoshino's journey becoming something more akin to a feature length film. I would love to see how she went from loosing her sight to building her own lightsaber. Where is her master? Is this before the rebellion or after? Were those attackers the Knights of Ren? Or some secret guard of Palpatine's? So many questions that could be answered... but until then, I will just say that this was a wicked amazing video and you should be completely and utterly proud of what you have achieved.

This is why I fear Disney owning Lucasfilm. I fear we will not see fan driven content which is what made Star Wars the force it is. Disney has already started to perform a Order 66 on all the fan driven content and I'm afraid of the day we will not be privileged to something as beautiful as this video. Which in 7 minutes described the heart of a Jedi with more than words. Thank You Stephen Vitale and team for making this.

I was really digging this too. Though the eager apprentice plotline is sort of a Star Wars cliche that tends to be used a lot in fan films, the writing here was solid and unique enough to really shine through. Excellent cinematography as well, and alongside some great performances this is one of the better fan films I've seen.
@tootsmagoot83738 жыл бұрын
Unique writing? You know there's been blind Jedi before and episode four Luke fights a remote with the blast shield down because the force provides a kind of sight, so the fact that she's meant to be blind is about as exciting as a fish with no legs.
@cpg-cubeprogaming12338 жыл бұрын
Toots Magoot I said "unique ENOUGH." Yeah it's got a lot of clichés, but you're seeing face value here. Welcome to Star Wars. What you are missing is that this is clearly less of a film about the usual Star Wars tropes and more about the theme of respecting the blade. While that may not blow you away, it's actually a topic that's kinda glossed over in other films where they go, "Yo this is a more civilized weapon OH LOOK a situation in which a lightsaber is convenient to whip out and swing around!" Also check out that irony. The main character believes that a lightsaber will "open her eyes" to being a Jedi, but in truth when she accidentally blinds herself she learns to see better than she ever could. I totally get it, it's not all new. But look a little deeper than the cliché moments and you'll find some substance.

I would love to know how much time was spent on writing this, and how many edits and re-writes there were. Because so many fan films, especially Star Wars ones, fall down by focussing too much on visuals, spectacle or action choreography but this film is one of the best out there because the script is TIGHT. There are some truly excellent lines in this that felt 1000% in the Star Wars vein. "This is light, but it has weight" is GOLD such a perfect representation of a literally weightless lightsaber as a super OP and deadly weapon and the consequences of violence, impatience and recklessness. "In a real fight I'd be able to see" is also great foreshadowing and character-building whilst showcasing the philosophical importance of reliance on the Force vs your physical body. Other little bits I enjoy are the use of sticks before using real lightsabers. It reminded me of how in martial arts like Aikido the movements you make with your unarmed body in combat then translate directly into also utilising your boken. If you take the time and patience to master one element of the art, you then realise how important fundamental basics are in "levelling up" to the more "exciting" tools like swords or, well, lightsabers.
