people say "oh he just there to pick up fat stacks that he cant get in the league no more", people say "oh he just trying to market his brand in a new and bigger market.", people say "oh he is only a star there cuz he can't play in the NBA no more". That may all be true. It's true that their level is much lower than the NBA, but you don't become a champion in any league, even if the level is significantly lower , by having no drive and heart to win. Even if he was better than everybody, basketball is a team sport, to win you had to put in work yourself and work with your team and come together as a unit. But real talk tho, how many nba or ex-nba stars are actually willing to go to china put in effort and work with the local players? sure stephon is old, sure there are much better guys than him now in the NBA, but that don't mean nothing. Stephon is a hero in China because even if he is past his prime, he brought what he had to china. And surely the experience of an ex 2 time all star in the NBA can't hurt. And surely better than nothing at all, not to mention Marbury is actually committed. Best of luck in China Starbury, didn't like you before, but you are alright.

can't hate on the man... he found a new life for himself and he's happy. basketball is one thing but when you think about how a lot of athletes spiraled out of control and got ripped to shreds by the western media... marbury made the most of an opportunity.

It was surreal, emotional and very epic. The guy deserves a lot of respect for what he has done for himself here in China. As for Mike Sui. Eat one buddy.

Politics aside... global, tier one cities in China like Beijing and Shanghai are no joke. There is A LOT of money to go around and way more opportunities than most U.S. cities (especially for foreigners). These cities are populated with futuristic skyscrapers, high speed rails, mega malls, night clubs/bars that rival stuff in Vegas... long story short, this isn't the China from outdated high school textbooks. Marbury is smart for making the move to China and extending his career. People don't judge him there, they respect him. He's gonna retire and live quite well I'd say. Good for him.

A few thoughts. I'm in my low 30s and I am A born and raised Brooklynite, so I grew up hearing a lot about Marbury... and his family. He was talented enough to become a real superstar but he did have some issues. with that said I did support his entrepreneurial side. I used to go to steve and barrys in the Manhattan mall and buy the starbury apparel. it is kind of sad to see that the brand did not endure. but I am happy to see that Marbury did find a home..and became the star abroad that many hoped he could be here. from Brooklyn to Beijing

Stephon was a phenomenal basketball player during his time in NBA. He had so much love and respects from teams, teammates and fans when he was at his peak. But people seem to abandon him when he hits a rough patch and at his lowest point during his time in NBA. He somehow managed to find his love for basketball all over again overseas. Thank God that China has given him a chance to build his legacy and what a legacy it is. Congrats Stephon! You deserved every little bit of success you have built in China Basketball Organization. God bless sir!

Say what you want about Marbury, ever since he left the NBA he's been on a positive journey in China. He's not only building his Brand but he's right up there with Yao Ming in terms of developing Basketball as the #1 sport in China. We're talking Billion+ potential Fans, Players, all that. As a fellow Brooklynite, ALHS Graduate and fornmer Coney island resident....BIG Shout out to STARBURY aka the original Jesus Shuttlesworth . Vice news should've showed him much more respect instead of being dismissive and hating on all that love hes getting in China. the guy was a perrenial all-star, i think its time he should be inducted in the Hall of Fame

Marburry did a lot for the perception of African Americans in China. They had previously only largely encountered African Americans through American films and TV. For him to move to Beijing and be the best him there brought a new perception for Chinese people to African Americans. Likewise he helped the CBA a lot and people appreciate his hard work and sincerity. They can tell that he actually took up to living in China, the culture and likewise learned a lot from the surrounding. He’s matured a lot since his days in the NBA. I’m really glad he was given this opportunity, took it, and few from it. He’s made the best of a situation. Other players retire at his age but he’s opened up another market for his career and countless other opportunities. The people of Beijing and China sincerely like and are fans of him. I don’t know if this video showed the best part of his stint here, lol. It is a video showing a part of a play about his life story. He’s capitalized on his life story and has made meaning to his life. I think that’s all anyone can hope for in life.

Why do I detect a parallel between Marbury and Colonel Kurtz (Apocalypse Now). Both adopted and revered as some kind of god by a foreign culture... Both wield a strange influence over the population of said culture.. And of course, both are balder than the day they were born.

I love the game but hate who the NBA and it's leaders tried to get rid of Allen Iverson and Stephen Marberry. They went to Turkey and China to start a new and better life but the NBA is still benefiting from them and using them as NBA ambassadors. Now tell me beside Yao Ming and maybe Kobe who both get paid for being ambassadors for the league...tell me another person as big as Steph and A.I that took basketball beyond political correctness. Steph and A.I do it for the love for the game. The NBA still making money of both those guys and also they are using them as ambassadors of the NBA.

This drama is stupid and only a few people would watch it. Shame on u vice. If you really want to show people how he lives in china, why don't go to watch a game and tell people his change from a lone wolf to a team leader? Why you always show the worst part and make people think the whole thing is ridiculous. I'm a Chinese and a basketball fan. I'll say stephon's change should the amazing part you vice should tell people. Not this shity show.

wow this is great marbury was always one of my favourite players back in the day Im happy for him that things in china are really working out. I remember back in 2004 I visited Berlin, Germany and I was walking through the streets as a saw a guy who carried a basketball and had stephon marburys face tattooed on his shoulder. Back then I thought wow out of all players he chose to get stephon marburys face tattooed on his body thats crazy ... not jordan not magic but marbury. Now looking back his tattoo got a whole new meaning one of the poorest tattoo choices I ve seen so far turned into one of the best.

What Marbury has accomplished in the world's most populous nation should be studied. Complainers in the comments will talk shit and say he couldn't make it in the NBA. Those people are small minded and have probably never had anyone care about who they are in their own neighborhood, let alone among billions of people in China. The smart people are making moves in China. There's a reason you see Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Curry, Durant, LeBron and others go to Asia in the summer. They are well known globally, but Marbury is literally treated as a deity there. He may get trolled in America, but most Americans haven't traveled outside of their state. Money is money...I've been to China and was playing ball in tournaments there. People treated me well...and I'm not even close to the Marbury level. With the economic buying power of China....people need to be open to new opportunities.
