Manchester United legends Alex Stepney and Paddy Crerand were part of the official unveiling ceremony at the Railway Club in Stretford for a brilliant new tribute to the Busby Babes who perished in 1958.
The morning after a fabulous European triumph over Barcelona, dozens of United fans witnessed the ceremony just a short walk from the Theatre of Dreams. Our former players paid tribute to this outstanding new memorial and also spoke about the impact being made by Erik Ten Hag in this historic season . . . 65 years after the Munich Air Crash.
#PaddyCrerand #AlexStepney #MunichMemorial
This film by John Gubba includes the full unedited opening ceremony hosted by the Railway Club's licensee Jackie Cosgrave. It also includes interviews with Brian Mulholland, an MMMF founder member, and Stephen Melgie Merry, who built the new memorial.
Special thanks to Railway Club Stretford which is now sure to become an ever more popular destination for our global fanbase

A lovely tribute. Good to see Pat Crerand and Alex Stepney looking spry and full of humour. I love Crerand - a fantastic player who, along with Nobby Stiles (RIP), was the fulcrum of that 60s team.

Hi mate, I worked over in Ireland ( Dublin) but we lived,in drogader ( got the spelling wrong I think) we went into the United store, there United fanatics over Ireland 💯👍 keep it pal! It's like a little Manchester is Dublin! Some United legends are from Ireland and my first ever red hero was super sam ( sammy McIlroy) last player sir Matt signed, I loved the fella , we signed the best midfielder on the planet in Bryan robson to fill his boots, r kid was on the stretty that day robbo signed against wolves (5_0) and super Sam got a brace or a hat trick that day! What a player! Loads of irish legends harry Greg, Irwin, Whiteside McGrath, Moran, Stapleton the list goes on bk to the Busby babes to one of the best players the world has ever seen seen, ( when I die and they lay me to rest, I'm going to go on the piss with Georgie best! Then there's the man himself keano, robbo and him best captain's we've ever had!!, Ireland have produced some of the greatest players ever to wear the red of United!! Facts! Respect to the irish people!!,,mufc religion!!

@@ManUtdTheReligion thank you for your hard work and dedication you put in mate, from fellow reds! Great channel! From the cradle to the grave! Mufc religion!💯👍! I was 6 months old when I first went to the theatre of dreams ( in my mother's arms) only missed 3 home games of each season city liverpool and Leeds for obvious reasons! I must of been 5 or 6 yrs old before I remember properly, and that was staring at the stretford end, ( it was magic the noise was deafening a sea of red and white! I just couldn't wait until I was older to get in there with my mate 's! First goal I remember was a thunder bolt from Martin buchan against everton at the stretford end! Best day of my life was when we won the first premier league ( for me it beats 99) that night against Blackburn was something else! We won 3 fa cups in 2 decades but they were the best times being a red! If anyone reads this that night against Blackburn I was on a massive billboard wearing a bright orange top on Warwick road and some fella took some photos, pls get in touch if you read this as I would love to have them! I had a bobbed haircut a very good looking kid!! Lol! Sorry for the meither guys! Mufc religion! Thanks for the hard work again mate!!👍💯! Ps busby babes never ever forgotten RIP! What part, let alone MAJOR part as you say, did Molly play in the success of the coalition for Jimmy Murphy? Go on, do tell me. He was an observer. Like you. His petition formed no part of the application, as you well know. So stop your lying nonsense. Trying to include Molly, Dono, and the failed AFMUP application to the coalition campaign I led to conflate issues allows you to tag on. I saw your posts last summer. Your filming played no part either. Now desist. As for the true back story to this memorial. Well, let's say recollections may vary, and I have the emails from the outset, whattsapp messages and purchase receipts to prove it.

Pat what a bitter and twisted comment. Trying to magnify your own small contribution to the Jimmy Murphy campaign after jumping in at the end of a very long running campaign is a shameless attempt to ride on the shoulders of the many who have made this happen. Without years of campaigning by the association of former Manchester United players, fan led campaigns led by Molly and others including Dono, not to mention most significantly of all the will of the Murphy family, backed up by pressure from media activists like myself and other prominent media including journalists such as Steve Bates at the Mirror, there is no way that MUFC would have agreed to a statue for Jimmy at Old Trafford. You once told me that the good work you did at the MMMF was never about promoting yourself. Sadly that was not true at the end. JG

@Man Utd The Religion Dear Mr Gubba, I see, 24 hours on, that you haven't removed your libellous online defamation against me, much less offered an apology. I note that whilst only 5 people have liked your comment, that in of itself shows that your libel has been seen. The fact that your extremely limited reach does not play massively against my reputation does not diminish the slurs you have voiced. Some facts for you: 1. 2 separate, unlinked, online petitions had amassed a combined 2900 signatures when I formed the coalition in the spring of 2020. That's right, less than 3000 signatures after 4 years campaigning. Molly's started in 2016. Target 20,000. It had 1800 signatures. Dono's started in 2018. Target 1500. It had 1100 signatures. 2. The family, namely Jim Jnr, told me not to get involved supporting the petitions over 4 years ago as in his words 'the family were split'. Throws quite a spanner in your claim somewhat of it being "driven by the will of the family". 3. Neither petitioner had any plan to unify both or even to close them off and present them to the club. 4. After several years in existence, although laudable and commendable, these petitions were not major, as you claim, and did not form any part of the campaign coalition, except that the petitioners were told that they would be used if the club played hard ball. They didn't. The club were superb and completely non-adversarial. 5. A coalition partner, MUST, in one fell swoop amassed 6500 signatures to a survey question on wanting recognition for Jimmy, also to be used only if needed. 6. A push on Molly's petition, suggested by the TRA, was agreed and it increased signatures to 2800 (1800 in 4 years, but a further 1000 in a matter of weeks), with Dono's 1100 giving the coalition over 10,000 extra match going voices should they be needed. Thankfully, they weren't. 7. Alan Wardle is on record as congratulating me on bringing home the success, which meant so much to the AFMUP given they had been previously refused by the club. So that previous separate failed campaign also played no part in the coalition's. 8. I have numerous messages from members of the Murphy family, who rightly recognise the key role I played, saying how grateful they are to me as a family. 9. The club are on record as publicly acclaiming the fans coalition led by me. 10. You yourself have previously stated I played a "leadership" role. 11. Who is it that Ed Woodward and Richard Arnold dealt with? You? Molly? Or me? 12. Who has represented the families interests obo the coalition right the way through? You? Molly? Or me? 13. I formed the coalition only when the unified entity, the Murphy family, said they'd get behind my idea. If they didn't, I wouldn't have campaigned. 14. I then recruited the coalition partners, outlining the campaign strategy and plan and leading it for 3 years. They all willingly joined and contributed in the main, but at the very least, they willingly offered their organisations support. This was powerful. This is what the club recognised. Not undelivered petitions or media influence as you claim. 15. You were only invited in as an observer, for your film. 16. Molly was invited in as an observer, out of courtesy for his past endeavours, but he agreed on the position vis-a-vis his petition. 17. Who did the family choose to speak obo the coalition at the unveiling? You? Molly? Or me? So, do tell me. In light of all of this, how do you now conclude that I have ridden on the shoulders of others and piggy-backed coming in at the end, playing only a small part? How dare you. Nothing else had either been successful, or it was stagnating rather embarrassingly after years of fan apathy. Look at the time and figures. Speaks volumes. You have defamed me. You have libelled me. I will not be so despicably besmirched by anybody, much less you. I have already made the Club, the Family and MUTV aware of your disgraceful behaviour. They can draw their own conclusions. Claiming credit for things you haven't done and giving it to others to facilitate your own inclusion is quite despicable in my book. I will now consult a solicitor, providing them with testimony from the coalition, the family and the club, along with your disgraceful accusations, and, if they agree you have libelled me, I will take legal action against you. Sincerely Pat Burns Dear Mr Gubba I am giving you 24 hours to remove your utterly defamatory and libellous comments about me on your KZbin channel. See attached photos. I have cc in the leads from the coalition who campaigned successfully for Jimmy Murphy recognition at Old Trafford. Not for comment or observation but to see just what exactly you have said. Your conflation of unused materials and previous rejections from the club is solely to allow you to make claims of your own participation. You and Brian Mulholland (Molly) were observers. You have been told this. If you don't remove this, you will be hearing from my solicitor. I also expect a full public apology. Yours Sincerely Pat Burns

Patrick, You previously did some good work at the MMMF. Why are you now destroying your reputation? You should know that you will never silence my freedom of speech. Please get back to me after you’ve spoken to your lawyer. I think you will find he/she will advise you you’re the one guilty of committing libel. You can’t call someone a liar in public and not expect a firm response. Even worse you followed that up by using the word charlatan. Now that is scandalous. In case you do not know what that word means here is a brief definition: A charlatan (also called a swindler or mountebank) is a person practicing quackery or a similar confidence trick in order to obtain money, power, fame. For the avoidance of doubt I stand by every single word of my online reply to your unprovoked and malicious abuse. 100%. Also I note you’ve airbrushed Rose out of the lobbying group. You may get away with bullying a woman. But that will not work here. Get your lawyer to respond when you’re ready. Or do the honourable thing . . . apologise, and stand down. JG

@Man Utd The Religion I think you'll find freedom of speech doesn't mean you can make stuff up and I think you'll find trying to bolster yourself on the back of others to further your image is the act of a charlatan. I note not one comment on my account. Bullying? Haha. Funny. I'll let you know, or should I say my solicitor will let you know if he agrees you have libelled me.
