It was a thing back in the day to finish an album with a poignant acoustic track, Married with children/oasis, coming down/starsailor to name a couple. Sadly as the concept of “albums” has diminished over time these gems either don’t get recorded or don’t get heard in their true context. “Word gets around” was a powerful album both sonically and lyrically and this was a perfect foil for all those distorted guitars and heavy handed drumming, not to mention the raw velocity of Kelly’s voice! It takes you by surprise. Long live the album!

I remember buying Word Gets Around in '97 when i was 26, 27, after hearing Local Boy in the Photograph on the radio. No KZbin or anything back then. I was married, 1 son and really happy in the prime of my life. I started buying their cds from then on. My then wife didn't really get into them until i got Just Enough Education to Perform. She loved Mr.Writer, then got into the rest of the album. When i would get home from work she would have Just Enough Education playing and singing along while making the tea. It was such a great time for me. I'm quite a lot older now, divorced, alone and suffer from depression. I still have my Stereophonics cds and great memories of the '90s when i was in my prime, all black hair, quite good looking had a lovely wife and son and there was great music about. Stereophonics, great band. 👍

Even now if I see the phonics live I will shed a tear during local boy. It was playing at one stage during my 18th birthday party, surrounded by family and friends, some departed from this life, some no longer in my life. None of us will ever be 18 again but the music lets us feel it again for a brief moment. Kevan, I hope you are doing OK buddy.

@@WHAN381 Thank you so much Wayne. What a beautiful comment. It can be really hard on us who are left behind, when we had such lovely friends and family who are no longer with us. I'm grateful for the music that you've mentioned, that can take us back to a better, happier time in our lives, even if it's only for a moment. I'm also so grateful for the ones we have left, and i just want to say thank you so much my friend and i wish you all the best in your life. Take care Wayne and be safe 🙏

That must have been the mid 90s brilliant band
@kevanbrown7620 Жыл бұрын
There was lots of great music from about '94 onwards. So many great bands about, i would be buying a new cd album every week on friday, payday. They called it Britpop, but that was a bullshit name, it was just really good music and i was in my mid 20s, all black hair, quite good looking, had a lovely wife and son and i felt great each day. I still have lots of cds from that time, quite a few Stereophonics cds, if you haven't really heard them i would start with their compilation Decade In The Sun, then go back to their debut Word Gets Around, then Perfomance and Cocktails, then Just Enough Education to Perform. A brilliant 3 album run, then take it from there, but you probably have them anyway. Now i have grey to go with my black hair, but at least my hair is still all there lol. I'm divorced, live alone suffer from depression but nothing can take away my memories of the '90s when i was in my prime, had a great life and the music was so much better than it is today, apart from the odd good artist, but back then there was an incredible amount of good bands.

Looks like a pickup, it probably wasn’t an electro acoustic so it’s been added in to allow him to plug the guitar into an amp.

It's called a feedback blocker basically because the jumbo guitars are so big they hum back on the stage monitors so you use that to stop the feedback
