Laura Dawson, MD, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, discusses stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for treating localized colorectal cancers, aiming to eradicate malignancies. Although randomized studies assessing SBRT in colon-only metastases are lacking, the potential for improved patient survival makes it a recommended option. However, SBRT should complement rather than replace other treatments such as surgical resections. In cases of oligoprogression, SBRT can precisely ablate a lesion, allowing patients to continue systemic therapies that address the remaining disease. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancer Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
