We tested it with clear pond water and pre and post microscope slides and it is clear that it works. Good video and thanks.

This series on water filtration has been very informative. I have only begun to look at options, my first purchase has been the Sawyer mini and I'm happy. This series helps me decide what I may or may not prefer to spend my $ on in the future. Thanks LS

With the pre-filter, and how it stores wouldn’t your water become contaminated when it comes in contact with the area that filtered out the bad water?

These are really cool. I use to have a UV sterilizer on one of my aquarium filtration systems and they would kill just about any living organism. A pocket version like the SteriPen would be a must have. Great review.

How's the long term durability of the Steripen ??? It's been 6 years now since you made this video. Thanks for the awesome review.

logically I know it works, but I'm still apprehensive about this tech. great video, and love the series.

Primal Edge Yeah, I prefer the filtration as well. Also, with this you still have the taste of the water.

ty for sharing the video, I also use the steripen adventurer, they work great and as you mentioned in cold weather these still work great, where the others may freeze up

ben terwellen Awesome, I was hoping someone who uses one would post a comment like you did saying it does work well in the winter.

Sad ly, it does not 'work wth AA batteries'. Unless they are lithium, it may not work. Although Steripen ssys this cleatly in the instructions you may be surprised. They say NiCd will also work, but apparently that depends on the brand, only the Energizer Lithium cells are a dure thing.

Ben question for you about a water filter I was looking at, it called survivor filters and they claim to be able to filter down to 0.05 micron. now they seem to be the only one that I have seen so far that can filter down that low. So was wondering if you have heard of them or better yet do a review of this filter. Thanks

I really appreciate these filter videos. Have you heard of the lifesaver bottle? It's supposed to be one of the best filters it filters out all viruses and even their spores I don't know if it does chemicals though. I don't think it has activated charcoal.

when you're getting the water say from a stream do you put it in a bladder first then transfer to your nalgene? if not, are you not worried about the contaminated water touching the nalgene bottle top when you're getting the water?
@livingsurvival8 жыл бұрын
i guess you could be super careful. i just wipe it good.

Does this eliminate odors and strange tastes in water or is it just making it safe? and if it doesnt what do you suggest using to remove the odors or strange tastes...
@livingsurvival10 жыл бұрын
This type of filter would just make it safer to drink. To eliminate odor and taste a hollow fiber filter is best. You can also add flavoring to your water which some do even after boiling it because they do not like the metalic taste sometimes there after boiling.

Your video may be well intended to give options but factors should be looked over prior to jumping on the wagon with a uv pen. I work in the municipal water treatment every day. I would not use one of these devices in any water source that has the least about of debris or solids such as algae as bacteria, viruses and giardia can hide in the debris and we are tolking very small particals. UV does NOT remove toxins of any type. It only neutralizes most viruses and kills bacteria. UV light kills bacteria, viruses, and some cysts. It does not kill Giardia lamblia cysts or Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts, which must be removed by filtration or distillation. UV is not recommended if the untreated water has a coliform content exceeding 1,000 total coliforms or 100 fecal coliforms per 100 milliliters. Many surface waters in this country exceed this amount. Neutralizing giardia and viruses does not mean it kills them instantly and they can become active later under optimum conditions such as your body. UV is not used in large applications as it is too risky to public health. Most municipalities still us a 12.5% bleach solution or gas chlorine are used to remove bacteria and viruses, usually followed by filtration. Once you injest giardia, bacteria or viruses, your on your own to combat them. This is not something I would cherish in the backwoods with no assistance. There are no chemicals you can add in the field that will remove chemicals and toxins. UV definitely will not remove either of them. I watched the video and I would never put my life in trust to such a device. But to each their own.
