I'm 42, I listen to a whole plethora of music genres, but Jungle will always have a special place in my heart, you're spot on about the unity in the music. I grew up in south London, I went into the care system in around 94, aged 13 and initially ended up in a temporary placement in Clapham, opposite the Winstanley estate. I spent the summer with an amazing girl I met there, she played me a Brockie and Det tape, it was the first jungle I'd ever heard and I was locked. She and her family were Jamaican and would cook out all summer. That vibe was something that stayed with me. Beaming sun, basement flat garden in Clapham, Kool FM always booming from Jamo 365s set up on two dining room chairs, bush weed, Red Stripe and banging food. Good times, good fucking times.

I remember my first time with Jungle. I was working the UK but grew up in new york. Anyway, I took my first E and went to some jungle night somewhere in Oxford. After that, it was a rap. I was all in.

Junglists salute! I haven’t written on here for a while but note a few negative comments recently regarding the frequency of advertisements on the video. I'm really sorry about this but it’s unfortunately out of my control. The record labels that own the music are monetising the mix (not me), hence the ads. A shame really as the music should be for everyone and should flow as intended buy hey ho. The good news is I just purchased a new set of 1210's so there will be more content to come once I’m back up and running! Whooha! XD Thank you all for the huge response and overwhelming positivity to date. The comments have been amazing. Peace Sterlin

More than one genre to be honest: A lot of old hip hop uses it, jungle (obviously🤣), drum & bass (again, obviously), breakbeat, breakcore. I’m sure I’ve missed a LOT. God bless the Winstons (AMEN!)

It was even more than this genre though, it was used in Straight Outta Compton and hundreds of tunes in 1990/91/92 before Drum & Bass had got going. One of the first proper D&B tunes I remember was Dead Dred - Dred Bass. Once that came along, it changed things!

The sounds of a time never to be forgotten. Went to my first rave in 91. Didnt hear jungle until about 93. Spent the next 10 years of my life going to parties every weekend and I mean every weekend. I live in Florida and at the time the scene was vibrant. Drove up and down the state following the music, the culture and vibes. JNCO jeans, snow goggles on my head (but to the side), sun visor and comfortable large shirt and sneakers. We looked like freaks and we owned it. Really thought we were going to change the world. It was one beautifully enjoyed decade and also one profound waste of time 🤣 ....dont let the scene die.

@@jasonhardy4207 I hear you bro!! There weren't many big Rappers in the UK until the early 90s with London Posse, Klashnekoff, Ty, Blak Twang, Mud Family (Skinnyman and Co). The 80s was a beautiful era. In fact in NYC pirate radio stations helped promote Hip Hop over there and we followed suit in the UK. In London it was more of the Reggae sound system vibe and AfroCaribbean communities influences during the 80s before the advent of Acid House.

I was a very late bloomer when it came to jungle. The beat patterns differ what made it unique and you can switch it on a dime.I first caught on to jungle back in 96 when Virgin opened up a mega music store at Times Square in NYC. I thought the arrangements were madness (mind blowing). The beats and sounds were sick (awesome). Only one station in NYC gave time to play jungle music was WKCR (Columbia University). The show was called Concrete Jungle that aired every Saturday night from 9-10:30pm. This was truly music for the underground.

The tune selection and mixing really shows that this chap knows his tunes. Some really clever drops and blends, the sort of stuff you'd not notice if you were at a rave but when listening at home it's properly clear. Nice one. Remember me and lighter mix was proper!

I’m from S florida and the mid to late 90’s were the best! The Edge, Mars Bar Jungle Nights, so many others which are a blur now. I’m 46 now. I love that I was a part of this amazing scene.

I remember back then HMV had a record player you could listen to vinyl on, I remember I would go through the jungle section of the vinyl and listen to snippets of a few records before buying. The staff probably thought I was crazy. I was a 11 year old junglist

bro we were dancing young hippies back in 2004 or so, in countryside rock festivals at the dance stage, krishnas provided vegan food, punks rocked the nation, dreadlocks and mohawks all over - what a time to be, something in the universe opened for a few years for us to enjoy - the world was so wild, free and kind - what a time, what a time! thanks for sharing the tracks!

Oh the memories that I had long forgotten, just came flooding back to me, THIS was my genre of choice when I started DJing in 1994 & ran a night called 'Welcome To The Jungle' at The Catfish Club on Brighton Seafront. I only ran it for about 6 months as the door money didn't cover the hire of the equipment, so was out of my own pocket, but so much fun while it lasted. I switched to other genres when Drum & Bass got too dark & started to draw a moody, troublesome crowd & it wasn't fun anymore :( Hearing this, brings back the fast, energetic chaos, that I loved so much, I two stepped on the dance floor for hours & went home with blisters on my feet & a smile on my face. I've STILL got about 17 of those tracks played in my vinyl collection. Nicky Blackmarket is playing in a club local to me in Plymouth on Friday, so I'm pretty sure I'll be playing this style more often. Think I've got a whole different idea of what I want to be producing in the studio now. Thank you so much for reminding me how awesome this is xXx

I went to one of your nights, 94 was my first year a bton uni. Wow...what 4 years i had there, The escape, the loft, alley cats, and not forgetting the concorde and Legendary Zap. Not forgetting the paradox with Babylicious nights. Miss those days. Unforgettable, and glad i was there to enjoy the thick of everything

The intro description greatly describes one of the most significant musical genres in history. 16:00 would a prime example of the goodness of jungle, the mix of the vocals, and a synth melody to ride with it. Ahhhhhhh

Just hit play - thanks for that introduction. Some of us were really lucky to grow up and experience the 'scene' and all of that unity through drugs, the music and the whole shabang. I started in 2005 and went to many legal and illegal parties in socal and Mojave. The scene is so different now...kids be walking around playing dubstep from their phones but they missed out on the true origins of our community which is one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Anyways, I'm glad to have lived it and felt those vibes and coming together through that music. The ravers manifesto pretty much sums up everything we lived by. Peace, love, unity and respect. ❤❤❤ thanks

That transition into Renegade at 29:56 is just.....yes. Being obsessed with Jungle really spoils me....every modern electronic song sounds so low quality to me now. I don't know a single other person in my area who listens to it, either. Feels kind of neat being into the classics that no one ever hears anymore.
