you'll be happy, i'll almost garantee it. set it up right and it will play very smoothly but the real impressive aspect is the range of sounds, amazing for a one pickup bass. that pick up is an awesome desighn. thank you leo fender. but you shoud remember, for an electric bass, the sound you get is mostly about the AMP. if you've got a great amp your golden

roman14032 It's been 9 days since I received my Sterling. It's the black model with maple neck and fretboard, and it sounds AWESOME !!! Great bass for the price, I plug it into a 100w Fender rumble combo during the rehersals (before getting something more ... serious ;-) ) and I'm just so pleased ! Output si very high, I had to turn the volume amp a quarter down and the sound is huge ! I love it, I should have made this choice earlier, thank you mate. Greetings from France

Try resting your thumb on the top of the pickup and alternate the two fingers on the E string, this technique works for me.

For those asking if this bass is good for someone who "already plays bass," IMO, yes it is. Very much so. Run it through a good amp and it kicks ass. I'm blown away by this bass. Although it's a "budget" bass, it sounds as good and plays nearly as well as my "real" Musicman Stingray. Amazing! I've played for 35 years, and once upon a time, a cheap bass was unplayable crappy sounding junk. Not any more. I'm gigging it and it rocks the house! A gig-worthy bass for less than 300. Imagine that.

Got me one of these in April (in white) after having played for about a year. This is an absolutely great bass and although I don't have the best amp, it still plays and sounds awesome :)

I found a used one at GC the other day. Highly recommended. It is great for slap as well. Great feel and sound. The pickup is very good. You could spend the same or a lot more on other brands/models and get a lot less.

I just purchased a new Sterling MM Ray24CA on sale for $349 last month. It's a big upgrade from the Sub 4. The difference between the 24 and 34 did not seem as big.

I just pick up the same bass a few days ago and I love it! I have been playing for like 13 years I have a Warwick that this bass will hang with I needed a good 4 string and was about to get a jazz bass but got this one!! I would tell anyone looking for a new bass to pick this one up it sound like a bass priced well over $300

..... I've got a cheapie Fender and Hofner and an expensive ass Rickenbacker (theres no cheap one sadly).... Weirdly they are all pretty damn good quality, thinking about grabbing myself this cheapie Ray so I've got a more modern sounding bass.
