Omg that roasted maple neck. I really with they would make a Sterling cutlass bass with roasted maple neck.
@therealscarred21126 жыл бұрын
Or even the SBMM Ray35QM that I just purchased a month ago, and *totally* fills my need for a Stingray-type Bass at an absolutely reasonable pricepoint: I’d have paid $100 more for a Roasted Maple Neck & Fretboard!

Ya I love mine but definitely Gota go to my 9’s. And get use to where the toggle is.

Since you are an Ibanez guy, I'm wondering what your thoughts are of this vs a Ibanez (GRX70QATBB) in blue as far as finish and playablity. I know there is quite a price difference, bt I don't mind spending a few bucks on modding the Ibanez. I just like the blue on both of these guitars.
@IbanezGuy883 жыл бұрын
I would say it comes down to how you like the feel of the neck on the Ibanez. It is an introductory price, but with aftermarket pickups, it can sound great. But it's quality suffers from it's price point. Main concerns would be vintage trem on the Ibanez vs 2 point on the Sterling. 24 frets vs 22, etc. If you can get the chance to play both at a store, hopefully it can help you decide on your decision :D

One thing I feel that’s slightly “unfair” is that the Sterling By Music Man Ray35QM also in “Neptune Blue” that I just picked up last month and is the equivalent of a BFR Stingray 5 is that it’s made in Korea as opposed to Indonesia, and is noticeable in the build and parts quality... while the Sterling JP150 is the Guitar equivalent but still made in Indonesia and doesn’t get the built quality boost. 😕

Thanks for a very useful review! Can you please tell me: How low was action out of the box? Is it in your opinion suitable for ultra low action - max 0.9 mm (or lower) in 12th fret?
@IbanezGuy886 жыл бұрын
Out of the box it was pretty spot on 1mm at the 12th on low and high e strings :) Very fun guitar to play with!

Is this trem floating? Also what is the range of frequencies you get from the trem?
@siggiarabi5 жыл бұрын
would also like to know. it seems like it, tho EDIT: after looking at some other comments, it does seem like it's floating
@nalonlefournis5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is, it’s a kind of mix between floyd and super classic fender style trem Edit: also you can bomb it all the way and pull it up far ish

Hey nice video, is it possible to install a piezo system into this guitar? Liked and subbed. Keep up the good videos!

Sorry for the late reply! I would hope maybe if there was a direct bridge swap. But then again there would need to be space for the extra electronics/ knob.

How well does the trem stay in tune after a year? Like do the edges wear down?

Hi, that JP150 blue color seems quite visible on the video. On my new JP157, the color of blue tone is way way dark and unless you put a bright flashlight to it, you'd think it is black. Any idea if that is normal?
@jaythedjentleman25716 жыл бұрын
Tadej Sustarsic just saw a video where the guitar looked teal. The guitars are painted by a person, rather than a machine like mist companies, which probably has something to do with it
@tadejsusta6 жыл бұрын
Jay Petrini do you have a link of that video?

As a Bassist who was looking at a ton of different “Sterling By Music Man” Ray35QMs in Neptune Blue last month, I saw *many* variations in the intensity of the stain based on the figuring of the Maple “Tops”. I ended up picking one that was a solid 8/10 NOS model for $600, whereas I saw another that had a _fantastic_ amount of Quilt and shade of Blue, but would have been $900 New after Shipping. The extra cost wouldn’t have been worth a better *Veneer Top*, IMHO... especially when I have Basses with _true_ 1/4-1/3 inch exotic tops that make a difference in the Tone of the Basses and don’t “just” look great! 👍🏼.
@IbanezGuy886 жыл бұрын
I've noticed that the tops are all slightly different in color/quilt/bookmarking. I saw 3 of them at my local Guitar Center before I grabbed this one :)

if its not staying in tune there's a 99% chance its your tremolo claw that needs adjustment 1/16th of a turn on each screw can be the difference between your strings and springs pulling out of whack versus balancing perfectly. yeh its good to have the lube on the saddles and the graphite nut and the stabile tuners- and if you cant hear the boost on this guitar- your tone is probably awful and preamp gained out
@bluwng2 жыл бұрын
The bridge is floating. The string vs spring tension on a floating trem is always equal. Always.

Are those pickups powered by batteries?

Passive pickups! The battery is meant for the volume boost :)

How does the trem compare to a Floyd?
@IbanezGuy886 жыл бұрын
Tony A Sorry for the late response! It works good enough but you can’t get extreme dives or pull ups as you would on a Floyd mainly due to the routing.
@gcstang5 жыл бұрын
@@IbanezGuy88 could you upgrade to the Floyd on the JP150 ?
@IbanezGuy885 жыл бұрын
@@gcstang Unfortunately, not without some routing :(
@moflanagan9225 жыл бұрын
@@IbanezGuy88 you can pull up in it, right? And what is the range of frequencies you get from the floating trem? Also, it is floating, right?
