Sweet Thang, I found a live performance of Shuggie!! What a legend. Fun fact: When The Stones were looking to find their new guitarist after Mick Taylor was getting ready to leave the band. He turned them down and said he wanted to focus on his own music. The Man’s true to his music. No doubt.

I feel ashamed that I’m 56 years old and LOVED all the old funk and soul coming up through the 60’s and 70’s, including Brothers Johnson, but never heard of this incredible legend. What rock was I living under?

Shuggie has not made it easy for people to become acquainted with him and his excellent guitar capabilites. After "Kooper Session" was released I couldn't understand why he basically dropped from sight. I know he still recorded and worked with Johnny Otis but, for me, his recordings weren't really accessible. He seemed to be playing strictly for Shuggie, all others take it or leave it. That's fine for Shuggie but not necessarily so for those who loved the cuts he did with Al Kooper. Fortunately, that album is a true classic so I fall back on it often.

Shuggie could bend those strings with the best of them here’s proof. Too bad so few seem to know of him or how good he is. Some only know him from Strawberry Letter 23 and most only think of The Brothers Johnson when it comes to that. Lastly if the song is Strawberry Letter 23 why is only Strawberry Letter 22 only mentioned in the lyrics. I’ll let you Shuggie Otis fans ponder that one😁!
