Great performance! Your horn(s) are really talented. Hitting that Bb above the staff is no easy feat but they nailed it.

my favorite recording of this piece is by the royal northern college of music wind orchestra conducted by timothy reynish. it runs 6:12 and everything is so expressive and the sax solo is amazing. the whole album probably has my favorite recordings of the selected grainger works they do, especially colonial song, irish tune from county derry and molly on the shore

Agreed. Beautiful recording.

@saxboi94 yeah same...i played the euphonium part on this but i play treble clef because im a converted trumpet player...my teacher wound up just having certain instruments begin with that A because most of the brass couldnt get it but the euphonium solo/with trumpet is the greatest thing ever ahah

when we were working on this song for uil it was so hard getting that first not to start at the same time. i hated it because i play tenor saxophone and my note was an A which at the time was very hard to air start

For the people that played colonial song their are two versions on written by grainget and the other is edited the one that is edited has the soprano part that's the one I'm playing

AWESOME I AM TRYING TO FIND THE MUSIC SHEETS FOR EUOHONIUM DOES ANYONE KNOW WERE I COULD FIND THEM?

decent recording. the alto sax solo sounds pretty good, and same with the euph and trumpet. the times i've played this, we've had a soprano sax play the solo in the beginning instead of an alto. it sounds great on soprano

@nj14devilsfan30 where could I find that recording? thanks

I play it on Soprano as well. Sounds awesome with the the Alto..... the alto in this vid was REALLY flat at first. :(

@TheJoeistall00 well we would just work on it until it wasnear perfect. it was brutal

we have a soprano do ours too, and it sounds a lot better than an alto in my opinion..i feel like the song is being a bit rushed, but o well

His concert pitch Bb, or his G, is quite sharp, which is the note his solo first starts on. Trust me haha. no hard feelings.
@Overdrivenpower15 жыл бұрын
you mean the alto solo in the beginning around :58? it's actually sharp, not flat.
@genesis34415 жыл бұрын
No, he started flat and bent the note up. He was in tune from then on though. :)
@katsmeow5815 жыл бұрын
He actually started incredibly sharp but bent the note...down. :]

This is sorta wierd, at the beginning people didn't know where to breathe which i felt made a lot of gaps :/

i wish my wind ensemble would play this but it's a small group and lacks the brass power.i like this performance but i still think it could be a touch slower. grainger had a lot of up tempo pieces but ones like irish tune from country derry and colonial song were meant to be slow and the tone very expressive. if there wasn't any soft background support during the beautiful sax solo i would say the conductor need not conduct during the solo and let the performer carry on through.

you can tell that it's poor acoustics and microphones that cause the alto to be out of tune...however, I DO think that the alto is playing the solo a bit too fast for my taste (they seem to be almost rushing), and it's not nearly as expressive as it should be...could use a lot more vibrato, etc etc...other than that, fine recording, much better than the SFASU recording, lol.

..... I disagree. But regardless his pitch was off. And Stetson.... is known for incredible, almost perfect musicians.
