Another brilliant edition of this series! Steve's a wonderful interviewee and not someone we ordinarily hear a lot from, so this was very enjoyable. Full marks again to Dan Dawson - this series is so enjoyable for us fans.

Smoothest throw in the game. Legend.

The most wonderful thing about Steve (apart from having the most aesthetically pleasing throw in the game) is the way he transcends generations. He came through in the era of Bristow et al when players learnt the game in the pub and worked their way up and is still punching his weight with the youngsters today who have come through in an era of JDC, development tours etc etc. In the mid 90s he was arguably the second best player in the world behind Taylor (on par with Priestley imo). I hope one of the main broadcasters finds a role for him as a pundit when he retires. I'd happily see ITV bin off Warriner and have him instead.

I remember at the Scottish open back in the 90's. Beaton came and sat beside our group, 6 pints later, your round Steve, told us all he was skint haha. Still it was a pleasure, made us all feel like kings in that Normandy Hotel Bar.

Top player and one of guys i didnt mind winning . I played in pubs before Steve Beaten although was in Scotland where booze and piss heads was the norm back in 70s ..Was always people playing on the board if u walked into a pub though most times . but often today not ..Cigarette smoke i had to wade through with clouds of smoke and i was non smoker and the sounds of piss heads shouting talking gibberish loudly at one another this when i played was also the norm in pubs , much jealousy was around also and things i could tell i could write a book . I never hit the heights of Steve Beaten but i was not involved within the inn crowds them who went schools together etc , lthough i left many them in the shade on the oche when i did play v them , them so called county players But like Steve Beaten said although to a lesser extent , i know more so a loner wont hit the heights in darts no matter how good he is . Have played v Jocky Wilson in a game for some £s myself back before he was seen on tv and i knew not a jot who he was until later ..This game i played in around 1978/9 v Jocky and was in 1979 in Londons Wembley conference centre he came across to me at bar asking where i was seated , i pointed him in right direction . And final time with regards Jocky was in Plough Inn in Forfar Scotland where i and bar woman alone were within lounge bar and i purchased a drink and opens up cabinet for the board and begn some practice , after 15 mins or so door nearbye board slight opens , all i see were these 👀piecrcing through and with a voice saying ..Ok for a through t board with you mate ", this was in 1986 and from all people in bar at back room who walks in door but Jocky Wilson and so im throwing away on the oche just me along with Jocky and barwoman for company which was good fun . Recall like it was yday when Jocky said after say 10/15 mins on oche turned said to me You play for Fife Stevie , i replied No im too good to play fir Fife Jocky , which then brought the wide Grin we all liked , he said something else which was also funny in a way regards you look like a famous singer , i replied you remind me of that famous darter Jocky Wilson which brought that wide grin , sure Jocky liked such me saying that 😁 but deep down guy had seen the darts i was throwing was good enough , id say more than good enough ..But ye some good fun between us both . with some smiles along the way . And after seeing his game he won 2/0 V some numpty this was my final time of seeing Jocky .. As for Steve Beaten as said didnt mind him winning as he wasnt a bad loser although i bet he hated losing i liked his style of throwing the darts , he for me was the real cool hand luke , just his name is same as mine Steve although Steve > Beaten or back the way Beaten Steve doesnt sound quite as good eh 😄 Guys / Lassies ive already made my poem up which adorns on my wall in the house , and im proud of that as was penned all by myself and no words so truer . Sure many have seen it online as i put it online a few times in the past few yrs and im sure they love it as i do 😁 They know i was the real deal but jealousy among some is rife within Fife ..You know guys Billy Connolly told facts some yrs ago now when he said the Scots are a funny bunch in that they dont like famous people this Billy said when he became big they frowned on him ..i say they are a jealous race of people sadly and i follow through to say only " IF they were not and gave a talent like myself the chance to shine then id have taken the darts to a different level back in the day , and with the walk on song and entrance would have been the no 1 best walk on to date . As for Steve Beaten wish guy awe the very best top player and sounds like a good guy 👍

Great great player always loved watching him play but disagree about the BDO being as good as the WDC as it was then after the split Taylor Priestly Anderson etc all previous recent BDO champions were far superior to any BDO players then

Damn Dawson interviews Welsh/Polish legend Bron Zdadonis. Pretty much ruined by persistent mic noise caused by table tapping (Zdadonis) and asinine questioning (Dawson). Whatever next? Littler Youth farting and following through whilst fellating Barry Hearn? Christ, I've seen it all!!!
