I think the clapping for Steve at the end is because of how honest and transparent he was to the fans. The Wilpons gave the Met fans lip service for years for top agents like Harper. Vladdy will also be 26 if he hits free agency and has a market. Pete has NO market, so why bid against yourselves for a player who tried squeezing every single penny out of you? Also do you not realize the Mets payroll is still $40m below our payroll last year? If the Mets aren’t willing to pay Vladdy, why are they interested in him? Pete could've said, enough is enough, and he would be a Met. Sure, he has every right to search for the most money, but at the end of the day, who do you want to play for? It's not the fact and it is that Steve Cohen has the money to pay Pete without question. With the Bor-ass demands that are unrealistic to Steve, he will not. Steve can offer Pete a billion-dollar contract if he wants to. Cohen makes smart business decisions, if he didn't he wouldn't be where he is today. If you offer Pete a ridiculous contract, there's less room to improve your team. This ping pong match has wasted a lot of time in finding an Ace starter, and a solid #2, a bat or two who makes good contact, and good contact in the clutch. This delay made the Dodgers an even greater team that had won the World Series from their great pitching and timely hitting. Baseball is not rocket science, throughout its history, teams mostly won on their strong depth, willingness to win, and luck.

That Soto contract has a lot to do with why Alonso isn’t being offered more and I’m sure he’s feeling some type of way about it being that he’s been productive
@turkwendell690421 сағат бұрын
It literally has nothing to do with that Cohen could buy the world. If anything ever holds him back financially it's fear the fellow owners will kick him out
@RichWiands22 сағат бұрын
Considering the agent... outright stupid. May have affect on player if Mets is really where he wants to be. Boras doesn't care how he looks. Also this is what you get when you give out the most outrageous contract ever. Everybody else thinks they are worth more.

Nice. I’m an Astros fan, for us it’s Bregman and Boras. There are a lot of good players out there. We may want this guy, we may even need this guy, but at some point we are going to move on and the hold out player may be left hung out to dry. To quote Charles de Gaulle, the graveyard is full of indispensable people.

The people in that crowd are very easily manipulated. If I were Alonso I'd head elsewhere. He's definitely working to gain leverage with this. At the same time I don't blame him. I don't believe Alonso is crucial for the Mets. They don't need him with other options.

How could Soto not show up for the Team’s fan fest when he was just paid 750 MILLION? I don’t care if you’re in Timbuktu, get your butt on a plane and be there. Not a good look to start.

Pete didn’t know that his market was going dive like this. You can’t blame the Mets. They’re bidding against literally NO ONE! Boras is desperately trying to get the Blue Jay’s to give him a higher bid but they’re not biting. What a disaster for Pete. He got bad advice from Boras.

There must be a lot of stupid fans out there when you need a video with an "on the spot reporter" telling you what you just heard from the main protagonist....

Vladdy and the Jays are making progress and it’s looking more likely he’ll stay in Toronto. I still believe Alonso will stay in NY.

cohen is a businessman that’s why i always disagreed with the people saying “richest owner on baseball doesn’t care” etc. if that was true beers and hot dogs would be a lot cheaper. uncle steve wants to win and he wants to make money. he’s not going to make bad deals just for the sake of giving them. i think pete is being influenced by soneone to get more money. but if he truly loves the mets as much as he claims he does i think he will sign

he essentially put Pete on blast and i don't think he can bring him back now. even if you do re-sign him, there's going to be resentment by puting this out to the public. i honestly don't even think they want him to be honest. i think Vladdy in on the horizon

Points for Alonso to consider Pete Alonso needs to remember that the Mets chose not to manipulate his service time in his rookie year. They could have easily sent him down to AAA for 45 days and he wouldn't be a free agent now. If Pete begins to get offended by any offer that the Mets make, he needs to remember that he started this war. The Mets made a 7 year, 158 million dollar offer in 2023. He turned down that offer and shortly afterward dropped his existing agent in favor of Scott Boras. When you hire Boras, you are declaring war against your current team. Points for the Mets to consider You got the gem of the 2024 - 2025 off season and appreciably improved the team. You secured the gem of the auction. But now you are about to significantly devalue that gem by putting it into a substandard setting. How quickly you have forgotten the lessons you should have taken from the 2024 sweep of the Yankees. Judge and Soto! That was a scary duo. But you simply pitched around them and easily handled the remainder of the Yankee lineup. Now you have Lindor and Soto. You were so careful not to put undue pressure on Vientos in 2024, and what are you doing now? If that kid doesn't open the season replicating his 2024 success don't you think he's going to start pressing? What's your lineup after Vientos? Vientos had a great year, but he can be pitched to. Have you looked at his 1st half/2nd half splits? The league is learning his holes! Has David Stearns made this a personal battle. I hope he realizes that he can win the battle with Scott Boras while the Mets lose the war. David … you are smart, but are you smart enough to defeat your own ego?

Cohen has significantly more pull being the owner and not the FO. And being an owner who already added players BETTER than Pete Alonso. Mariners, Cardinals, anyone else.... they dont have that. So even if you gavw this same speech in another org, they dontnhqvw the actions to back it up.

Besides Soto, it has been a sad offseason. Dodgers basically will win another World Series. The Mets? Not sure David Stearns has a plan. He has yet to make an impact trade. I think he’s one of those guys who holds on to prospects until death do us part.
