Hes Been questioning his career and his jokes lately,in other words hes questioning why I laughed,he will never be as funny as he used to be,because of all the people offended,or in his head that he offended, hes never offended me and I much prefer it when he tries, when first heard steve coogan it was why i was drawn to him,now though hes apologising for offending people hes a sell out cop out,hes finished

It's not as simplistic as that tho for most people. Drug addiction is the end result of a long list of possible causes and events in a person's life, there are many reasons a person initially tries a drug. Obviously tho the worst most harmful drug is alcohol but people seem to be fine with that. inconsistently

For me, alcoholism was rooted in many things: an emotionally-disturbed childhood, chronic insecurity, difficulty with dealing with emotions - difficulty with handling life generally. It's kind of ironic that I (and millions of others like me, I'm sure) should seek to deal with life's difficulties... by making life even more difficult! But the draw of the drug is that it very quickly makes everything seem okay after all. Those first couple of cans or glasses, and the world's soon looking better. That's the cycle. Plus, I had a genetic component on my father's side: alcoholism running back through the male line for several generations. Also - as I didn't discover until I was in my fifties - I am autistic, and have had lifelong problems in education, in the workplace, in relationships, etc. So alcohol always provided a refuge for me. Until, of course, the roof caved in on it and the walls tumbled. Ultimately, it is about selfishness. It's an illness, but an illness with one significant difference: you have a choice about recovery. People can hit rock bottom after rock bottom before it finally sticks, and each rock bottom comes at a bigger and bigger price: losing a friendship, losing a partner, losing a job, losing a home, losing your liberty. For many, sadly, there are no rock bottoms until it's losing their life. It's an equal opportunities illness, too. Doesn't matter how stable and successful your life has been, how rich you are, how accomplished you are, how great life is. For people like Steve (and myself, too), it ends with having the courage to accept that it isn't other people, it isn't circumstances, it isn't anything external at all. It's YOU. YOU have to change. It's the toughest call of all, admitting that to yourself - and then to the world. It's the most humbling and, at the same time, relieving of experiences. It's setting aside the ego - which, for the addict, can be the most fragile thing of all. It's absolute exposure. Love and power to all those in recovery, and still seeking it.

You think Coogan has never faced scrutiny? He was a tabloid whipping boy for many years. He won a court case against the News of the World for their intrusion into his private life. He was utterly vilified by the tabloid press who would try to find any dirt on him that they possibly could, including going through his bins, interviewing his ex-girlfriends and hacking his phone. I would argue very few other people have been subject to greater scrutiny.
