Listen to the studio version in a car with a good stereo system and turn it up. The bass line is mesmerizing

A young looking Steve Earle performing Transcendental Blues is great. I have seen Steve Earle in concert three times and have a picture of him and me in my dining room.

used in the first episode of Longmire - it worked, capturing Longmire's haunted spirit and the show's grit - excellent tune

I wasn't sure about Longmire as it was recommended to me by my in-laws. Once I heard the first episode open with this song I knew I was in for a treat.

Jessica C This whole album is good. I liked TB the first time I saw him play it on TV. But after buying and listening to the CD I wasn't as taken by the rest of the songs. But I hung tough and listened to it a couple more times. After about the third time I realized that indeed, every song on that album is good! One of my favorite albums of all time, for sure.

This is a fantastic album, I ran out and bought it after watching this program. I'll have to admit it took me a few listens to make it grow on me, and it did! Not a bad song on it! I saw him in Seattle when he was out supporting the CD, and I still have my ticket stub inside the CD case.

@007brush Hi there....Steve is playing an electric: An Epiphone Casino. The lead guitarist is playing a Gibson Les Paul Special w/ P90 pickups. The bassist is playing what looks like a '51 Fender P-Bass. (The early P-bass models had Tele style headstocks)

n the darkest hour of the longest night If it was in my power I'd step into the light Candles on the alter, penny in your shoe Walk upon the water - transcendental blues Happy ever after 'til the day you die Careful what you ask for, you don't know 'til you try Hands are in your pockets, staring at your shoes Wishing you could stop it - transcendental blues

Anyone else think this might be what Kurt Cobain would sound like today?
@k.g.alatore355

A lot of the grunge guys who lived to tell about it went folk/Americana. Kurt Cobain more or less accidentally created Steve's son Justin's sound, so it's very possible, given that Kurt was very much all about old-school blues and country. Before he passed, it was suggested by King Buzzo to him that he should do a solo acoustic tour. The possibilities would have been lovely. And it sure as shit would have been dope to see Steve and Kurt share a stage.

@YaroKior and @niuniek777 Nirvana was a great band, but if you folks think that is where the influences are here, you need to learn more about music. There is a whole history before Cobain, though they do draw on some of the same influences, Steve learned it much earlier. And no, he is Justin Townes Earle's dad.
