On my eighth time watching this lesson I picked up on a little nugget that completely changed my swing. As someone who has struggled with rushing the downswing, coming OTT, "hitting at the ball" , flipping...you name it, I try virtually every tip on your channel. The one little hint that completely cured all of that was "straighten your right leg LONGER". Holding it straight for just a fraction of a sec longer smooths out the transition. You literally cannot rush it. Might help others as much as it helped me. Thank you for the best golf instruction on the web.

Yureka moment! I cannot tell you how much this helped me today. I am, was? A major arms lifter in the backswing. Focusing on keeping my left arm no higher than my right shoulder in the backswing was a game changer. I've never driven the ball better than today's round. The explanation of hands going up resulting in a cupped wrist and steep downswing is me spot on. Keeping the arms along the shoulder line really worked. Thanks Eric!

Hey man! Thanks! Lots of fun!! I would need to see your swings to say for sure. Generally speaking you always exaggerate an issue by FEELING the exact opposite and exaggerating. So the opposite of leg straightening would be keeping bent longer. I would feel lead hip LOWER longer and leg more bend longer (keep in mind this is a guess without seeing your swing to confirm)

God I hate push cuts. I too am going down exactly the same path as you are Eric for exactly the same reasons. Swing is too upright (thanks Jack 😆), cupped wrist, club to steep at start of downswing causing slightly over top motion however then I back out to shallow the club then I either flip causing pull hook or push cut coz the club face is open. It was really doing my head in until I employed the actions you have adopted here. The only other thing I have added is feeling like the clubhead is going down the wall on the way down and the back of left wrist remains pointed to the sky. And you are right you have to exaggerate 10 times how you think just to get it looking good on camera. Great stuff mate. Thanks

Great video. A question on the exaggeration regarding use of the glove and pushing the right arm out: is it better to get the right arm out as far as possible (even if the glove falls out), or should I just go as far as possible while the glove stays in the armpit?
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
I would look for the arm to be close to 90* when you video! Thats about the average we see with good ball strikers. The goal isn't as far out as possible its 90.....BUT....since most people OVER BEND they will FEEL very straight just to get to 90

I like this backswing adjustment for you because when you were more vertical your change of direction rerouted the clubhead too much from the inside, ie the push misses. I’m more vertical than you but my change of direction flattening isn’t as severe as what you were doing. Great stuff EC 👍

Regarding your point about making changes by yourself based off feedback: For me, I'll make a swing with a change but then that doesn't fit other matchups I do. The result ends up worse because I don't know what other thing to change to match things back up. So then you want to return to your old swing. This is particularly true when playing. Then you become like me and only play golf every 6 months haha

I understand this 'perfection' argument, it's just that when I look at the current Top 10 golfers in the world, (DJ, JT, Jon Rahm, Morikawa, Bryson, Schauffele, Cantlay, Koepka, Reed, Rory), ALL but Rory have slightly upright to very upright swings (Reed & Bryson would be the closest to in-line with their shoulders - but still above). Now, you can argue that #10 Rory has the best Driver swing and maybe he should be the target for emulation, but the high hands, shut face & playing that fade seem to be the way to make $$$.
@wallstreetoneil3 жыл бұрын
@Cad Pro I could add Jack & Tiger as well if that makes you feel better. On the PGA Tour, I see no one except Kuchar have a swing plane as flat as the shoulder line. If you have any kind of athletic body with decent-sized shoulders and chest muscles, it's a very non-athletic position to be in. There's a reason the long hitters on tour are not in this position.
@wallstreetoneil3 жыл бұрын
@Cad Pro don't let the facts of actual real golf swings of people who play for a living and that have won most of the majors in history affect your opinion that a swing where your left arm stays along your shoulder line as being not a good way to make a living golfing - you can go watch Eric's swing analysis of Viktor Hovland where he calls it the best swing on tour if you want his opinion on flat on plane unathletic swings
@wallstreetoneil3 жыл бұрын
@Cad Pro Major winners ranked by most Majors: Nicklaus - Upright Tiger - Upright Hagen - Upright Hogan - on plane Player - on plane Watson - Upright Palmer - Flat Snead - Upright Sarazen - Upright Jones - on plane Varden - on plane Faldo - Upright Phil - Upright Trevino - Upright And when you look at it, the only guys who were on-plane were a much older generation of players (Hogan, Player, Jones, Varden) with Palmer, the only top golfer in history, also older, with a swing under the shoulder plane - but Palmer had an insanely steep shoulder swing plane so some of this was his incredible flexibility and almost bizarre bend at the waist creating what looked like flat swing. All modern golfers on this list who have won multiple majors have swing planes above, and sometimes well above the shoulder plane - especially those that hit it a long way.

Steve pushes way to much of having a flat backswing. Go look at the best players...left arm slight above shoulder plane is where u want to be. Kuchar is one of a handful who can play flat...be careful. And Steve 's shorted follow thru on every club is absolutely incorrect way to follow thru.
