Was this the first song to feature a prominent wobble? Because I think it's the earliest track I've heard it on. I know the deep bass has always been a part of the garage the dubstep evolved from, but most garage doesn't have the wobble
@mhalatsis10 жыл бұрын
wobble is most commonly applied in american dubstep, especially that targeted at a more mass market audience; as it is used to structurally occupy the same role in these songs as rock guitars would in stadium rock (actually a whole lot of overlap btw the two genres structurally, skrillex's music in particular betrays his cali punk roots). i don't really know if wobble can be described as necessary to the dubstep genre as a result. on the other hand, i find that you often get a similar effect in old belgian & dutch and gabber & hardcore records, where the bass is intentionally left distorted in production such that it sounds kind of liquid, unstable, and wubby. seems like the wobble effect goes back a ways then.
@HonestSonics10 жыл бұрын
mhalatsis You could mention the 'wobble' of pure sub bass a lot of the original dubstep guys employed, and is used through 'til now. Cyrus, Skream, Benga (easy one to list there, as he has a tune by the name!) etc.

Prince Aligorna no that would be some jungle tunes from like 1994 mate
@TheBennychin9 жыл бұрын
+SFJR Yes, that's very correct. In fact, Steve Gurley (when he was known as Rogue Unit) made lots of Jungle and Drum and Bass tunes since 1994, you should check them out; they are amazing.
@princealigorna74689 жыл бұрын
Okay, yeah, I've heard some D&B from the mid-late 90's that have that kind of staggering, drunken swag sub-bass. Makes sense. There's been some crossover between the styles for years. Jungle/D&B have influenced pretty much everything since 1993.

Wait what? No! This is 2-Step Garage, not Dubstep (if that's what you were trying to imply). Dubstep started a year after this was released (the tune, not the compilation).

Carlos Alvarez: Contrary to popular belief, Jungle isn't actually connected to Dubstep. Sure, some artists were influenced by Jungle, but it doesn't exactly have any direct influence to Dubstep. Dubstep came from Dub and 2-Step Garage. 2-Step Garage came from UK Garage, and UK Garage is a type of Electronic music influenced by Garage (American Garage), which is a type of music influenced by House. No Jungle in any of those. Also, Drumstep came AFTER Dubstep. In fact, it's a FUSION of Dubstep and Drum and Bass.

Isn't UK Garage the son of Drum N Bass and House? This article on Verge ( www.theverge.com/2012/8/28/3262089/history-of-dubstep-beyond-lies-the-wub ) tells something similar.
@TheBennychin7 жыл бұрын
a Dubstep Lover: Drum and Bass, no; as for House; eh, sorta. It's not really a direct descent. UK Garage takes influence from Garage (American), and Garage takes influence from House. They both take influence from House, but they aren't exactly related to it. They are all clearly different styles. I've seen this article before, and it didn't really say anything about UK Garage being related to Drum and Bass or House.
