Thanks for the upload. RIP Ian Mcdonald and JW, who was a brilliant vocalist. Both gone too soon. Hackett always a class act. I think they did the song justice considering the missing original players.

Wetton adds his style to a song that you wouldn't think anyone could make good after Gabriel, but the song really fits into John's vocal style real nice.

My intro to Prog Rock!! First heard this song in 1973 on "Midnight Special"(?) and have been a Genesis/ Steve Hackett/ Peter Gabriel/ Mike Rutherford fan ever since. Great version with Asia(?)!! Thanks for the post!

Even though Peter looked absolutely goofy in that performance, I too loved it. And this is still one of my all-time favs. I learned "just enough" of the chords to play it on my little Mellotron synth thingy on the iPad.

Great version, really. The studio version with the orchestra mixed with the mellotron is great too. In both cases, John Wetton sings so well.... Marvelous, better than the original version, I'd say. And I very rarely say such a thing as I do love the original Genesis from the early seventies ! And better than the recent versions featuring Nad Sylvan whose voice is really a caricature of Gabriel's high pitched vocals of the early days...

I don't think he emulates him very well. his singing is quite often too mannered, effected. Phil Collins sang Supper's Ready and some other songs from the PG era better than him...

Can't say I care much for this performance. As great as Chester Thompson is as a drummer, Phill Collins fucking KILLED it in the original recording! I also love John Wetton, but this is not the right vehicle for him. What does stand-out is the incredibly poignant Mellotron introduction Tony Banks created! It's one of the most Iconic Prog-Keyboard intros EVER!

The rest of the band is faltering, and the great John Wetton is out of his depth trying to emulate Peter Gabriel, but Steve Hackett is THE most sublime guitarist in progressive rock - his version with Nad Sylvan in "Genesis Revisited" is sheer perfection.
