I am American and I was learning German at young age because I had Groosmudder and groosfadder who taught me the gutteral sound, how to count, how to ask for bathroom and water. How to say thanks and as a child, how to ask for help, Hilfe. How to me respectful addressing senior lady and man and young big and girl. Studying global issues ie Europe, EU and then individual countries. Learning about their culture and history and sport and politic. History of Vatican and Catholic Church. I read about Russia and several Asian countries. I read about the island nations between Asia and Australia. I started reading about Africa. At that point I saw similarities between Afrikaans and German( Deutsche). I find myself studying Afrikaans and learning about history. Tribal history, colonization and the nations war with Rhodesia and of course the beautiful and interesting animal. The nest extinction of those unique creature. I learn about apartheid. The breaking of apartheid. Read about Mr Mandela his great contribution and real questioned incarceration. I have started to use channels like this to help learn. I appreciate these two guy for speaking Afrikaaner and then English. It help. I really appreciate the men talking and shaking hands and commitment to respect. I’ll say the media portraits Americans as thinking we are the best and superior. I’ll say not true. A reason we know little of the world is language. We have one and Europeans, Africans speak easily 2 and usually 3 or more. Being close to other countries means you learn more. We America are not thinking we are better we are simply naive. Not excuse but an effort to explain. Foreign language is school isn’t encouraged. We think we a good but we are good along other great and interesting culture and people. We are slowly learning. Please be patient with us. It won’t be fixed in a decade. It’s a general issue. Parent and families must encourage. We are great but we are among other great and different people of the world. I once travel to a foreign country who wasn’t as advanced but our liaison gave good advice. He said ‘ “don’t look thru American eyes” but imagine this is your home. When you don’t compare and imagine it’s your home your mind will open and not be judgmental’ our liaison saying this really helped. It was the best advice. When I go to foreign place I try to learn a bit of language. I find the people really appreciate it. It shows respect, and I mean to honor the people when I’m in their homeland. Thanks for video. Its actually an Arabic word and has various spellings. It is the derogatory word for non Muslims and basically means 'infidel' or 'non believers' - someone who doesn't believe in the Muslim god. Now, there are various opinions of how this word made it here but its well known that the British and Arabs did alot of business in the slave trade. The British came to South Africa and I'm sure they brought the word with them. Why non Muslims would use it on other non Muslims is beyond me but they did and eventually it became a derogatory term used by some for black people. It's actually stupid to use it because all non Muslims are "k's" in the eyes of a Muslim.
