From the early lessons he learned from his father Bob Kinser, to his days with crew chief Karl Kinser, Steve Kinser set records that will likely never be surpassed, or even matched; yet the Bloomington, Indiana racing legend remains forever humble and grateful for the opportunities that came his way in sprint car racing. Sit back and enjoy Part 2 of a Conversation with Steve Kinser. Thank you for your support and feel free to share!

Ironically the last time I spoke to this State championship wrestler named Steve Kinser was at a Penn State/Indiana wrestling match in State College, PA around 2008. His boy Kurt was a Hoosier. We were cheering for the Posse (PSU). 😁 Super nice guy, big fan of him. His & Karl's stories are endless. Very special.

Steve is one of my heros in racing. I have a picture of Steve and I taken from his hauler at the Kings Royal. @@HistoryMysteryMan Hey! Thank you for the great content, Mister! If you ever get a chance, I would love to see some history on that Roadster of Karl's that Bob Kinser is pictured in. I make no secret of my disdain for some of those in the over-resto crowd that whines about old Indy cars being turned into Supers. It would be great to see one found and left as a V8 powered pavement pounder, cage and all.😉

I saw him race for the first time around 1976 at Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. I remember my Dad being so excited to see him race as he'd been reading about him in Racing Wheels Magazine and Speed Sport News. I got to be out in the pits with my brother for the races and, boy, what a thrill! My brother took me around to see all of the drivers afterward and he got autographs from some of them for me. I still have and treasure that program. The line for Kinser was VERY long so, unfortunately, we didn't get his. I grew up in the auto racing world so I was no stranger to it, but it was a BIG deal for me to be out in the pits with some of the greatest drivers of that era and one who would become the greatest of all time.

Three names come to mind, when I reflect back to my time in the late 80's. Steve Kinser, Doug Wolfgang and Sammy Swindell. I would cheer on Wolfgang , marvel at the talent of Kinser. I do however take great pride in the fact that Swindell flipped me off twice in one night. He didn't like the way I ran my push truck. The first was accidental on my part, the second let's say I gotta be me ! They ran two nights at Fargo ND when I was there. Thanks again!
