George was a no-nonsense individual. He recognized the talent Steve Luthaker has and he also was gracious enough to not disappoint his child-like desire for a Beatle to participate in that gig. George was such a wonderful man!

Mark Hamill told a story of how he and George happened to be on the same plane. Once Mark realized this asked if he could meet him. He was trying to not be too much of a Fan Boy but thanked George for his work and inspiration. George told him he liked his work too and was a Star Wars fan. It was brief but Mark took away to always be kind to his fans like George was to him. Love this story. ❤️🕉️

Brilliant player. Musician’s musician. I have seen the “All-Starr’s” with Mr Lukather twice and he excelled amongst all the excellent musicians with whom he shared the stage! Ringo put his arm around him after “Hold the Line” and they enjoyed an off-mic moment of whispers. Then, Ringo let us in on the chat: “That was about the one millionth time he has played that song, and I just had to tell him that this was THE best he’s Ever played!” His solos/outro was absolutely phenomenal - on Ringo’s birthday at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville! Brilliant. Did not know about the friendship then, but Ringo was sincere … And I was seated across the aisle from Mrs Starr and her sister, Mrs (Joe) Walsh. Not a bad night.❤❤❤ Great interview!😊

Good story. I once surprised Harrison by walking in on him in the mens' room at Record Plant in NYC when he was attending a party celebrating the completion of the mix of the album of "The Concert for Bangladesh". I was recording there that night and I went to relieve myself. I opened the door of the tiny men's room and there, standing at the urinal was George. I didn't recognize him from the back right away. Then he looked over his shoulder, smiled an embarrassed smile, and said, " I'll be done in a minute." SIimply floored that it was him, I said, "No problem. Take your time." He looked to the ceiling and said "Thanks" in that inimitable George accent. I backed out of the room and in a minute he stepped out. l introduced myself and we shook hands (I hoped he had washed them) and he invited me to sit with him, Phil Spector, and Doc Pomus in the lounge just outside the studio I was recording in. George introduced me to them, shaking hands all around. They must have thought I was "someone" as it appeared that George knew me. I had about a half-hour before I had to go in and do some guitar overdubs, so I sat with them. Well, you can be certain that I said very little but just listened as these luminaries casually conversed about music, politics, art, life, and death. After a while, Ravi Shankar came into the room and sat with us. George introduced me and I shook his hand. I didn't wash my right hand for a week.

Steve Lukather scared the crap out of me once. In the early 90's I worked at a custom Harley shop in the Valley. The late Miguel Ferrar was a customer and he invited me and my buddy up to his house in the hills to hang out. A bunch of guys eventually showed up including Luke. We all went out to dinner and was having a blast hanging with "big shots". Luke picked up the dinner tab (Thanks Luke!) and then we were trying to figure out what to do. I wanted to go hang out on Sunset but they said we were going up to "Lou's" house because it was Monday night and Lou had pool and poker night on Mondays. My buddy had a chopped top '50 Merc and Miguel wanted to ride in it so I got in with Luke in his new BMW 850i and we head up to Mullholand. Now I knew Luke was a great guitar player but I had no idea if he could drive or not and as he is hauling ass all I could think of is the morning headlines that would say, "Rock star and unknown man die in car crash in the Hollywood Hills"! We made it to Lou's house just fine though and Lou turned out to be Lou Diamond Phillips. He too was a super nice guy and told me to come back any Monday for pool and poker. Unfortunately right after that a recession hit SoCal, they passed a helmet law and it started raining everyday for a couple months. Business died and we had to shut down the bike shop and I never got the opportunity to go back to Lou's house. Miguel was a cool dude that was nice to us nobodies when he didn't have to be. He had done Robo Cop but his career really took off shortly after. It was very sad when he passed away. He was a good musician as well.

I am watching the one On Chicago getting booed and having bottles thrown at them as we speak. I loved your interview with David Spinozza. His story of the guitar solo was great. Maybe my most favorite interviews I’ve ever had the chance to do. The part you’re watching now about Chicago getting food thrown at them is taken from part two. I don't think many people realize just how much that "session musicians" like Steve Lukather made the songs of songwriters "come to life". That you couldn't have these amazing songs without such talented people playing them. In all honesty, I think one of the reasons modern songs seem so "dead" or "mechanical" these days - manufactured, really - is because the role of the "session musician" has largely disappeared from the industry. These guys put the color and magic into songs. It's like now we just hear computer simulations of them rather than their original and spontaneous interpretations.

There are only a handful of famous people in this world who I would genuinely be interested in hanging out with. Luke is on the short list. Read his book and bought it for my musician friends. He has been through a lot and it seems to have made him a better person

How’s about Badfinger for the Hall of Fame, please.

Badfinger are not in the Hall of Fame (and never will be) for the same reason that Waltzing Matilda is not the Australian National Anthem (and never will be). Some subjects are still too taboo for the "Rest of the World" (i.e beyond Chepstow).

@12:30 if Steve Lukather can’t get other people’s music down - no one - and I mean NO ONE can. Being a fan of Toto and of Steve’s playing for a long time I’m STILL finding things that he played on that blew me away! If Lukather could dance he’d be the complete package: he can play like nobody’s business. He writes songs (that are not total shredfests!) that become MASSIVE HITS! He’s funny. And by all accounts a good guy…. Get that man to Arthur Murray so we can tick that box!
