Thanks Steve. I used to live on St Martin's Isles of Scilly and had to leave when I was 24in 1987 . I was going to marry a girl who lived on the island but I couldn't find anywhere to make a living and all the properties were sold to rich people from London. Being on Scillonian money is being on your arse in those days . Unless you can have an income from renting to tourists. The cheapest property in 1985 was about £85000 and that was with a short 20 year lease. Nobody owns a house on St Martin's there all Charlie / William's now . I didn't stay with my fiancee as she needed to help her father there .Now she lives near Portsmouth so I hear . I moved to South Wales near the sea and met a Welsh lady . I miss the islands and now I'm 60 and retired I will make it a point next year to take a trip . Thanks for bringing back memories 👍 Anyway i sailed on Scillonian 3 a month after she started service. She was made 17th May 1977 and i was only 14 at the time.

I went on this trip two days ago. I saw an advert in a farmers field when travelling from St. Erth to St. Ives. I had been planning to take a boat trip to Seal Island in St. Ives for £25 per head. When I saw that I could get a day trip to the Scilly Isles - for not much more - I jumped at the chance (£35 only certain days though). I also discovered that you can hire bikes at St. Mary's Bike hire for only £11 per 1/2 day - I was only there for 3 hours so perfect. I rented a bike and cycled around the whole island. It was bliss. I watched this video before taking the trip so I knew exactly what to expect. Thanks, much appreciated.

About 18 years ago I booked a surprise overnight stay in the Star Castle Hotel for my family. We were staying in Porthleven out of season, maybe February. In those days there was a helicopter service from Penzance. The flight along the Cornish coast was breathtaking. I will never forget the incredible silence once the helicopter took off to return, leaving us on the island. It is an incredibly beautiful place and almost forgotten. Sadly there is a lack of income as so many homes are holiday cottages, empty much of the time I think. It is magical there. Go, and spend your money generously. Thanks Steve for raising the island's profile.

Sailed on the Scillonian II for a day trip back in 1962, (I was only 10!). Managed to squeeze in a trip to Tresco and the fabulous gardens. In 1985 I (now married!) returned for a week's holiday based in accommodation at the famous Kavorna Bakery, Hugh Town, St. Mary's. This time sailing, as you did, Steve, on Scillonian III which was running all those years ago. Fascinating trips to several of the off Islands during the week, including dipping in a very cold May sea off St Martin's. It seems that Vic's tours round St. Mary's on the vintage bus may no longer be there, because otherwise you would have been on it! Great video Steve, with a bit of nostalgia for us. Plenty more for you to discover on your next visit!

My wife and I had a wonderful holiday on Scilly 50+ years ago - it's quite amazing how little it has changed. In a day you could only see St Mary's, but you packed a lot in. The other islands are equally memorable. It is paradise in good weather, but a trip on Scillonian in a gale or on a heavy sea would also leave a lifelong memory. Brilliant piece, many thanks.

Bryher, rugged and rough, Tresco is beguiling and lush, St Martin’s with its silver white sands very tropical. St Agnes is almost Cornish and has Gugh attached at low tide. The islands are very bewitching and not forgetting the Sunset over Sampson. Magical

Oh no Steve, we're going to have to stop following you after you dissed our favorite Cornish Cyder!!🐍🐍🐍 (kidding) Cornwall is our favorite place in England, climbed to the top of St Michael's Mount twice and staying in St Ives for the 4th time next year! I have family in Plymouth so we've stayed there several times. The islands look so peaceful, thanks for taking us along as we've never been down that way.

For years we got the S61 helicopter to and from the Scilly Isles and I never fancied the Scillonian seeing it get thrashed around in the swell below us!
@steve-marsh Жыл бұрын
Does the helicopter still operate? Not sure if it's the same one I filmed or if that was something else?
@squinugie2091 Жыл бұрын
@@steve-marsh No it stopped running a few years ago but I think there is a more modern smaller helicopter running now. The S61 was great fun and as you know the passenger version of the Sea King.

No such place as the Scilly Isles. You can say the Isles of Scilly or just plain Scilly but never, NEVER, the Scilly Isles. Say it to a Scillonian and they'll tie you to the deck and have you sail in a force 7 or 8 for a week.
