This is from what I always refer to is the middle period of Steve Miller’s career. A very lucrative and profitable period for him. Made him a legend when everything he recorded turned to gold. His early psychedelic/space cowboy period featured his childhood friend on rhythm guitar. That was Boz Scaggs.
@paulinwoburn9680
@paulinwoburn9680 3 жыл бұрын
I think his songs from his early period were much better than his Fly Like an Eagle period. Maybe it's because they played the hell out of these songs. Check out the Steve Miller Band Anthology, 1968--1972 album. Every song is top notch and he's playing with musicians Nicky Hopkins, Lee Michael's, Bob Scaggs, and Richard Thompson. I think he also did a song with Duane Allman. He was and still is a great musician.

Yeah, when I hear the anti-marijuana crowd say "Oh no! Marijuana (cannabis, thank you) is so much stronger than it used to be! It's too strong!" 🙄🤨 Those fools aren't comparing it to the killer Humboldt buds from back in the day... Some of the Buddha Thai in those days (the real stuff) even had opium on it... Steve looked like he'd had some of that... Legal high quality weed (with nothing added) is a helluva lot better than smoking god knows what...!

Respectfully I can't agree at all. That's the shallow end of the Steve Miller pool of songs. It's like my bonkers friend who thiniks ZZ Top's best song is Cheap Sunglasses.

Steve grew up in Milwaukee. His dad was a musician. So there was a rotation of musicians coming and going including Les Moved to San Francisco in the 60s and got his start in music.

The Miller family moved to Dallas when Steve was about 6 or 7. After graduating HS in Dallas, Steve went back up to University of Wisconsin-Madison.

One of my favorites from them is “Jet Airliner”! It’s a cover they did and the intro song “Threshold” is always played preceding it when they are played together.

I saw Steve Miller Band in concert 3 or 4 years ago, and he said Les Paul was his godfather and taught him how to play. He said he was playing in bars when he was 12 and his Mom had to drive him to the gigs. He put on a great show. I never got to see him in the 70's, always wanted to.
