What shows Steve Morse to be a great musician here is how he doesn't blast out the other players with volume. He can be heard when he wants to and backs off when others are playing.

Got to see David G play with Stephane Grapelli (ex-Hot Club France w/Django Rheinhart) at the Paramount Theater in Seattle in 1980, with Rob in Anchorage (small club venue) in the early 80s along with Mike Marshall and Darol Anger. Good times! Thanks for this!

As a musician myself, I really appreciate this video clip. There were several guitarists, Phil Keaggy comes to mind, who had perfected the use of the volume knob to create “bowed” sounding lines. This was an excellent example! Thanks so much for posting this!!!

I don't know what's weirder, this line-up of musicians or that they got booked on the Merv Griffin Show! I saw the Dregs live in the '70s - they played all kinds of genres and styles mixed together - so not a stretch for Steve with the "Dawg" and bassist!

You saw the “dixie” dregs if it was the 70’s. As did i. The best dregs records are the original dixie dregs records. No im not some kinda souths gonna do it again dude-just no reason to change the history of their name out political correctness. If anything, their name was a parody of dixie not a celebration of it. While it is incredibly awesome that Reelin' In The Years posts these rare gems on _KZbin,_ and I have no problem with them advertising their licensing services..., I really wish they would place their watermark either at the top or bottom of the screen, not in the middle, or in this case just below the middle, DIRECTLY OVER the musicians' hands and instruments... It's EXTREMELY immersion breaking to attempt to see what strings and frets their fingertips are playing while being moved along by the music, but while trying to look through a giant watermark. Please..., I support and encourage you to add your watermark to the top or bottom of your videos..., but please..., PLEASE!!!, don't post your watermark directly on top of the main focus of the videos, (in this case on top of the musicians' fingers and strings.) Thank you...

Morse doesn't fit in this bluegrass context with his blues/rock guitar stylings. If you like this kind of music, try to find some early Dave Grisman Band numbers on YT (70's-80's) featuring the late great Tony Rice, the best and most graceful bluegrass guitarist ever. Check out Tony's composition "Devlin", a true gem.

I'm wondering if that depends on what your ears were trained on. I'm generally not big on performers that cram in lots of notes, but to my ear Morse and Grisman do it in a very musical way (that I don't get from, say, McLaughlin, Satriani, Vai, DiMeola, etc. - although all those dudes are very good, technically).

Mr Wizzard has always had the ability to play “clean” or any other coloring needed. He worked hard at technique since he was a kid. I remember going over to his house when he was about 14 and he answer Reed the door with guitar slung and continuously running arpeggio exercises and carrying on a conversation without interruption. As a budding keyboard player, I went home and rededicated my time to practicing.

This was 39 years ago...and that host, Merv Griffin wrote a book way back then detailing how Donald Trump totally screwed him in a real estate deal. It was one of the early publications that announced what many of us in the Northeast already knew about Trump. I only mention this because most today wouldn’t know who Merv Griffin even was...and here he is. He was great for musicians, a famous creator of game shows (ie Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy) and made his biggest fortune in real estate investing. Sorry to be political, but FYI.

Screwed him in a real estate deal. Ummm , ok. SO WHAT? One would think the level of corruption the average politician or CEO etc. has committed against the everyday American far outweighs a real estate deal - which, btw, occurs everyday btw avg people - also, how are we defining “screwing” the deal? Bidding a higher buy price ? Locking in the property with escrow and contract stipulations? All LEGAL. So, in summary, Indont think I’d lend much credence to a has been (now dead) fairy who, despite this incident, got everything he wanted in life Grow up.
