I’m 2 weeks away from being 3 years sober in recovery from alcoholism and people like Steve inspire me so much. It’s defly true that the moment you start telling yourself the battle is over and “you’re fine” you’re already in dangerous waters. The relapse happens way before the first drink, it starts with your thinking days weeks even months before you actually pick up the drink or drug. I love watching Steve so tell his journey.

Anyone old enough to remember Steve-O in his peak addiction days - like, as it happened - it's wild to see how measured and reasonable he is (and inspirational, I'm sure). He doesn't hate, he gets it, he's been there, but like he says, if Bam doesn't want to get better, he won't. You can't force him. I really hope Bam gets better - but I personally can't see him ever getting there right now, given the past 10 years or so of failed attempts. Mainly cos I can't imagine anyone that had everything and was rewarded for the 'I do what i want attitude' ever could wrap their head around a measured or sober life. He's been conditioned to live in excess. Sad thing is if you'd have told me when I was 15 buying CKY2K on VHS that there'd be dead or habitually addicted people amongst the people I saw as heroes, I'd have been surprised because they felt untouchable and indestructible at the time to me. Age catches everyone, and throw addiction into the mix it's not pretty.

@MsMN7677
@MsMN7677 Жыл бұрын
@@morgancross5454I totally agree with you! Bam also tried to save Steve-O’s life too. He just said, he’s never pushed being sober or anything on him. Acknowledging that he’s just not ready yet. Etc. Steve-O is very humble about his sobriety & worked so hard on getting his sober and maintaining it! It makes me so happy to see him so happy, healthy, & living his best life to me honestly! I’ve never heard that before about the rock bottom is only as far as you dig; you need to stop digging & that’s your bottom. His analogy is so true about the pool being so cold can’t imagine going in and getting in going down the steps you won’t get in your fooling yourself; we all know that the best way is to jump into the deep end, how quickly you acclimate, & you’re not cold. I think it’s the same with rehab you have to just jump in the deep end and fully submerse yourself into it. I also know that I can’t go around pushing people into pools and realized my analogy was flawed bc they can get right back out as I’ve seen them do many times. It’s sad. I’m a mom of an addict who is in recovery for just over 5 years now after many failed attempts at rehab & jail etc. I say that I’m a blessed mom bc I got my child back, from the deepest depths of addiction which nearly took her life multiple times, when far too many moms/parents sadly don’t but I will say that it took her coming to the point where she wanted it for herself, went to rehab where she gave everything she had into what was required & more, and it was like a miracle when at each time I saw her during her time inpatient I could literally finally see & hear the girl I’d raised coming back too, completed the inpatient care treatment, outpatient care treatment, and is now living her best life happily and healthy. She got married last summer and is a mom who has her first child fully back again and a little boy! I agree with Steve-O that you never give up but also you have to know that you can’t make someone else become sober bc it just doesn’t work. I’m so happy to see you so happy, healthy, living your best life @Steve-O. You’re truly an inspiration for many people!! Salute & respect to you! 🫡✨🙏🤍

I have an amazing story, if anyone's interested. One day I was driving home and I felt the presence of the Lord, come down to me from above. It was as real as anything and I felt so comfortable with Him. I knew if I asked Him to play a song on the radio, He would. So I said "Ok Lord, play Come as you are..." I didn't know what station it was on or anything, but I turned the radio on and the song started playing right on the spot, perfectly... I started getting flooded with chills inside, trembling, and crying tears of joy. When I got home, He stayed with me for 10 minutes till I got out of the car. Since then, I've been getting prayers answered wayyyy more often, because that experience made me stop doubting when I pray, and I follow Biblical instructions for praying, as best I can.

I could stay of heavy stuff, but after a while I got severly depressed till some doctor accidently gave me the right medication. Bams behavier, constant relapses and fear of boredom makes me think he seriously needs the right medication to stay sober.

Some people unfortunately don’t have self control when it comes to substance use. Even a tiny bit can bring out the worst in their addiction or make them spiral. Sometimes being sober is the only way to save yourself, your health, and/or your life. I’d take “boring” over being dead/unhealthy.

As someone who’s been around addicts and some family Bam is the worst case comparatively. He’s been in and out more than most addicts despite having more resources and support than majority of addicts. While it’s always gonna be an uphill battle he really hasn’t done himself favors. Every time he came out it was easy to see he didn’t actually accept the help when he was in by his wording, tone, eye movement etc. If he ever wants to get better he really has to “accept” and “admit” that he has a problem and wants to fix it. So far I haven’t seen that he truly wants it yet

My dad is a heavy drinker too. He has gone a year with no alcohol. But then he has had relapse after relapse. I don't think he will ever be sober permanently. That's why I don't drink or smoke. And of course I stay away from hard drugs. I don't want to be a slave to it.
@tafua_a

Most of the rehab stints were pretty much forced onto him, and he always blamed somebody else for it. "I don't have a problem with alcohol, you have a problem with me drinking!" Recently I've heard he's doing better, and he probably finally saw that he actually had a problem with substance abuse, and that was the source of all of the legal problems he's been having.

But the fact that you know that and are so aware of it only means that you’re better prepared to deal with those demons in healthy ways, because there are plenty of recovering addicts who don’t realize that and a lot of them end up relapsing because they thought the fight was over. Self awareness goes such a long way when it comes to sobriety and mental health. I wish you nothing but the best.

I miss the keyword "self control" in these types of conversations, as if the only two choices are between self destruction with alcohol and never touching it again in your entire life instead of just drinking occasionally like most people do. I drink seasonally, in an active season I drink almost every single weekend, usually friday and saturday evening, and then in off season I probably drink like once every two months or so, sometimes I drink until I am proper drunk and hungover, sometimes I just drink a few so that I am just slightly buzzed at most, depends on the circumstances. I am not super disciplined either, so if I can do it pretty much anyone should be able to, yet the "drink, but do it somewhat responsibly" option is rarely ever mentioned by these people.
@tafua_a
@tafua_a 9 ай бұрын
By the time you're an addict, your self control is tossed out the window. When you're an alcoholic, you can't drink responsibly. As Jake "The Snake" Roberts put it, "one drink is too much and a thousand ain't enough". Addiction is a chronic illness, and as such you will never be the same as you were before.

Minute 6:42 is where Steveo-O is always wrong. He says jumping in is the ONLY way to get in the pool. He knows that is false. Some people wade into a pool slowly but surely and get to the same point as the person that dived in, but at their own pace. Steve, your way doesn't make it the right or wrong way. So long as the person gets in that pool is what counts. So stop preaching the "my way or the highway" approach.

I didn’t get sober properly until I learned to be honest about how much trouble I was actually in. I was always qualifying my behaviours with bullshit excuses and victim mentality.. fake macho bravado and toxic self image and all that stuff.. I had to admit that I was killing myself and I can’t stop and I’m fucking terrified because I don’t want to go out like that. You’ve got to turn and face what’s chasing you down and I don’t think Bam has ever admitted how fucked he is.. I think he’s still qualifying his behaviour the way I used to. These days I talk to my addiction like it’s sitting next to me in the damn car. All day all the time. You need to be honest about how powerful a bully it is and give it your utmost respect. You’re never cured but you got your eye on the enemy and you outsmart it, some days easily.. others it’s white knuckles.. always taking it one day at a time.

Bam was, for lack of more accurate words, a childhood hero for me. I wanted to live his lifestyle (pulling pranks on friends, going on fun trips to places, building crazy hangouts and things of the like) he was a big part of my later teen years, and to see him just fall apart like this hurts. I loved watching all of his nonsense on Jackass and Viva La Bam, I even own the entire VLB series on DVD. Dunn's death was sadly the catalyst that started this whole chain reaction, and I just hold onto some slim hope that he can return to normal.

ya i got confused for a sec lol, but i guess he had a friend he said that was worse then bam? and that he shoulda put them in a rehab but like that right there just tells me he doesn’t understand that his buddy or whoever he’s talking about has to want to be ready and go, you can’t “51-50” someone bc that’s basically what it is but for substance abuse lol, can’t do it it like that

@@spencerscott9935 While they did that for Steve-o, his case was different as he had continuously put out email after email that were basically an unhinged call for help. He wasn't just on drugs, he was secluded from the world and doing nothing but do drugs and send emails to a huge list of people.

I was a heavy coke and pill addict. When I got sober, I just kinda woke up one day and stopped cold turkey. No programs or meetings or anything like that. And I was spending probably $1000 a week on drugs, stealing, scamming, hustling and sleeping in a hole I dug. For a Bam to have that much support, multiple rehab trips, more than enough money to carry him for a years, I think maybe just let him fail. There’s probably things he feels sober that are so unbearable, that he can’t enjoy the privileged life he made for himself. Maybe when everyone just lets him be a fool, living in a hole, he’ll snap out of it.

Bam got broken by Dunn’s death. He was already a heavy substance abuser. But depression is cruel and you can’t dig someone out of that hole if they don’t want to be. I hope he comes out of it because he has things and friends and family to live for.

Steve-o was the guy at the time where the thinking was this guy is so gone, he's not going to be around very long. His sobriety these days was unthinkable. Literally, ppl can say if Steve-o can do it, anyone can Well, not every addict, or addiction, is the same. So it doesn't work that way. Everyone has their own reason to be that deep. I don't know Steve-o reason. But I'm sure bam lost it when Dunn died. Then it spiraled. If Dunn could talk to him one last time and tell him to get sober, that might not help. For Steve-o, it was Johnny and a few others that kind of made him do it back in the day. Then after many failed attempts and relapses, he did it. Bam has also had many attempts and relapses. But he just hasn't fixed it. Everyone hopes he does. He has a family, they need him

interesting he said this thing with sober life being boring, its the exact conclusion me and my friends came to a few years back .. sucks to realise that living this normal life you remember so well won't ever be the same, you never forget the feeling of drugs .. its embedded into your brain forever, things you normally did bring no joy anymore, at least not sober

6:54 again I would have to disagree with that analogy. Because if you're walking slowly into the pool it might take a longer time but you might get used to it and it could work for some people jumping in might be the best way or walking down the steps slowly going into the deep end when you're fully submerged could work for them as well but yeah dipping your toe I don't think it's going to work for most people maybe it might

The battle is over. Been over for me since 2018. I was a hardcore meth addict, but I've been done with it. Some days I think about some of the times I had. Sometimes I go weeks where I don't think about at all. Whether I'm thinking about it or not though I know I'll never do it again. It's not something I gotta be on guard with. These AA and Rehab people are crazy. Freaks.

Here’s the weird thing about being a punk and what Steve-o I feel is talking to: we don’t want to be told what to do and we’re mostly from middle-class families. We have a relatively easy access to mediocrity if we choose, but we don’t. But we can also (somewhat) safely afford to abuse substances and do nothing because we don’t know or care what we want to do. Teacher? Fireman? Policeman? Why? These are things were told we should aspire to. But we also read that all of this is futile so why bother…then depression…then substance abuse….why grind away as a middle manager when you can live in the woods?

Steve O has repeatedly said that he won’t “push sobriety on him”….but he will talk publicly about his problem….if he was his friend. break your little AA rule and push that shit on Bam, he needs it more than ever. maybe if you push that shit on him, he will stop treating his sobriety as if it were a sinus infection. it’s like a homeless man at his worst has suddenly struck the lottery, and then goes and makes fun of the other homeless people.

All I got to say Is I just lost my aunt to heroin she passed in bed with her husband he woke up high and found her and he still uses he was the main reason she stayed in that hole and her for him they helped each other in the worst ways but she gave up on herself when it came to quitting so finally at some point me and my family stopped to and now she's gone and I wish I did more no matter what drug and what they say stay strong and keep fighting for them because your their lifeline when they give up

I think it’s more to do with losing his personality. I think bam believes his substance abuse is part of his personality and if he stops now his to old to make a new personality. It’s a part of recovery Steve-o hasn’t spoken on. If it’s part of your personality sometimes rock bottom doesn’t matter because who are you with out your mask. There is way more then just hitting rock bottom in substance abuse. Steve-O may think his not trying to force bam into recovery but when your all over the web talking about we all know what he really wants and that is for bam to go to recovery which sounds good but to bam would sound like “go to recovery “ sometimes you have to just walk away because you can’t help. Steve-O should stop talking about bam online if he really cares because we the people don’t need to know what’s going on in his life. If nobody paid bam any attention he might just change
