On May 31, 2014 Steve Perry, The lead singer/songwriter for the band, Journey from 1978-1997, walked on stage after a 6 day hiatus after a 20 year absence. This took place during the encore at an EELS concert at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington D.C.
Steve Perry came on Stage and sang three songs for the second time since his solo "Strange Medicine" Tour in 1994-1995. It's fantastic to see him gain a little more confidence. He sings the EELS song "It's A Motherfucker". He then sings a new piece called "Only Sixteen" after a story about a 16 year old love of his. Steve then jumps into the Journey hits, "Open Arms" and "Lovin', Touching', Squeezing'" before walking off the stage.

Me, too, Vince. I only live about 45 minutes away from Washington, D.C., and at the time, I had no idea who the Eels were, let alone that he was going to show up with them! I'm still kicking myself for missing that, because that was probably the last time I'll ever have the chance to see him again. Three times back in his old Journey days was simply not enough!

What a terrific Performance of Steve Perry with the Eels, in D.C. I hadn't watched this clip in a while since I was hooked on their Performance from Los Angeles. However, I've come to realize that "EACH" of these Performances is "Great!" Of course I cried (again), when Steve Perry sang the "Mo-Fu" Song, as a Tribute to the sad 'Loss of his beloved, Kellie. 😢 Nonetheless, Steve Perry, in keeping his "ETERNAL LOVE for HER" in his heart, chose to be strong for his Audience. I'm sure it brought him JOY, to know he was keeping his Promise to Kellie in Singing and bringing so many Smiles to each Audience Member. I can only imagine the JOY he brought to each Eel Band Member. Thank you so much, Mr. Perry for choosing to perform with your Friends, The Eels. 🥰💜🎸🎶🎤🎵🥁🎶🎸🎵🎙🎶🎺❤️👏👏 Perhaps, if you'd like to sing in front of an Audience, maybe you can take up a Residency in Vegas, as you had mentioned, or even New York. I'm sure you still have that yearning to Perform in front of an Audience. I think so many people would be so happy for you, including myself. 🙋‍♀️ Granted, not everyone will be able to attend; but that's with most occasions. If it's in your Heart and Soul to Sing, then you should "Sing!" Mr Stephen Ray Perry, please, never forget how sincerely and deeply you are Cared for and Loved. The best singer in rock and roll period. He is still sensational! The natural aging maturity of his voice is what makes this rock superstar a timeless gift . At 70 and 80 he will sound Sinatra esque and possibly better with his own uniquely beautiful style. Only a handful of truly special lead singers worth mentioning In same sentence as him. Plant, little Richard, Lennon.

Steve still sounds great. To me, a TRUE Steve Perry fan could watch him years down the road being helped to the stage gray hair and all, sit in a chair, and let someone else sing just the high notes of the past for him and STILL be thrilled to see him and hear him sing. Actually with or without the high notes. That is a true "I love Steve Perry" fan! For better or for worse So to speak. Steve Perry forever.

I agree with you David. Most, if not all aging artists can't sing the songs in the original key as they did too many years ago, nor should people expect them to. His voice is still pure gold to me. That's probably why he doesn't perform anymore. Unrealistic people and their ridiculous demands! Let's hear the critics sing! Lol

I agree but I also think the guy deserves a pass. These days singers sing well into their 50's-70's and sound great....but they've kept it up...kept singing. Steve's voice hadn't been in top shape in 20 plus years. But he's still got that magic. I give him my money before I'd go see journey...the cover band they are now

Watching this Awesome Steve Perry Performance, again! He looks so Happy singing with the Eels. If he so desires, I do hope he will Perform one more time. For whomever gets the privilege to see him, I know it will be the Best of experiences. He's still Got It, so I know it'll be Great!
