I truly admire the way he speaks, the passion he has inside. He is very intelligent and loves music. But i admire him very much on the inside. It makes me very happy to see him at all ages. From young til now. Very much so now I admire his life's journey. I enjoy hearing him speak just as much as i love to hear him sing. If i were to be the luckiest person on earth I would be with him. Blessing back to you. Tatiana

100% agree! I love listening to his interviews!! He speaks well, explains himself well, he's polite, respectful, down to earth, etc. I love the insights he gives us about the songs or how they came to be, or the touring. The honesty! Just love listening to him!! And yes of all ages also, he has carried it the whole way through. It would be so easy for him to be an ass but he's just not like that. He amazes me!!

I personally have always thought that Steve Perry held a grudge against Neil Schon because after the hip thing Neil had Jonathan Cain call Steve up to tell him they were moving on after Trial by Fire. Neil didnt have the guts to do it himself. Neil and Steve were friends for many years and lived together at one point in their lives. And for the way it ended and the way Neil went about his decision to move on without Steve was pretty sad. Despite their differences Neil could have sat down and talk to Steve. So that's why Steve stayed bitter the way he did and meant what he said to Jon. There is no comming back. But he sure did leave a great legacy!

Ironic that no one minded when Rollie got tired of the road, but Cain and Schon were, 'hurt, because we thought we were family', when Steve had to leave after Raised on Radio due to burnout and the death of his Mom. Hypocritical at best! Guess they couldn't say because we know that anyone else will just be a second best attempt to recreate a little of Steve's magic. Admitting that would have been more than a rock 'n roll ego could handle.

@MrPman851 If I may: Steve had the hip problem while hiking in Hawaii to get in shape for the tour planned for "Trial By Fire", the album they'd just finished. He could NOT tour; the band did wait several months for him to get surgery & get on the road, I'll give them that, but then they decided "enough---we're looking for a replacement singer"; Jonathan was the one who called Steve to tell him. Steve released "Strange Medicine" in 1994, he & the rest of Journey officially "divorced" in 1998.

Love Steve Perry. Love his voice, love his music. Sometimes people become too attached to things they ought not. Being "married to your music" is not a good place to be. People are always more important. Too bad he couldn't learn that before this. Hope he's happy. Music can't keep you warm at night!

@wendileona Yeah, the solo work tension stuff is on the revised VH1 Behind The Music DVD: their manager, Herbie Herbert, TOLD Neal not to do it & he'd "rue the day" if he did, that "monagamy is not a hardwood in Brazil...", implying that Journey was "the wife" & Neal should remain faithful to that, at the time. HH KNEW that if Neal did solo work Steve would, and look what happened. "Street Talk" was FAR more popular than Neal's....just 1 of the many rifts in the band....

Always loved this song. Not that it's my business but I can't help wondering...I kind of assumed from listening to the lyrics of "Girl Can't Help It" and so on that Sherrie left because he wouldn't (or couldn't) commit to marriage. Does anyone know?

He was crazy in love with Sherrie, but Sherrie was a pain in the ass. She loved him, but she was really jealous, insecure and possessive. (Of course, he was gold..!) Just read the story of Separate ways video. The rule was "no girlfriends while we're working" but Steve had to take her with him on set and she was complaining about the model "do you really have to film with her?" and things like that. The manager and the rest of the band couldn't stand it. They were nervous also because they didn't like the concept of the videoclip, so there was a lot going on. In the end Steve, to calm her down, promised her he would have written a song for her...and boom...the next year Oh Sherrie was on the radio (and the very Sherrie appearing in the video)...the first two minutes of Sherrie videoclip are ironic about what happened during separate ways filming...Steve fighting with the director trying to make him change his mind, telling he didn't like the concept, ecc...

He gained weight here a bit and like he said, he sort of didn't care much about looking good! Funny, because he didn't have like a great "style" by '84 he also comes off a little tiny bit cocky here. I guess he focused on the music more, which I think has a lot of classic R&B/Soul/Rock N Roll influences that carried over to Raised On Radio. I remember something from Neil saying he did a solo/duet thing first then Steve felt like he should to and that led to some serious tensions in Journey.
@daniellamorrow
@daniellamorrow 7 жыл бұрын
wendileona I see what you mean about the cockiness, especially in comparison to his earlier interviews, but Steve even admitted in an interview himself that it was hard to stay level headed with all of the praise he got from people 24/7 “saying how great you are and how wonderful you are” also, In his words he said it was a world where “you could die from encouragement”.
